Meet Ben Shore

We’re thrilled to introduce you to Ben Shore, who was introduced to us by Martha Yancey. Martha has one of Southern California’s most respected Estate Planning and Disability Law practices and is one of our Content Partners. Partners support Voyage by collaborating on content, sponsoring our mission, spreading the word about our publication and more. We caught up with Ben about life, work and more.

Ben, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Ben Shore I am a licensed insurance agent who helps coordination people sign onto private Medicare plans. After graduating Cal State San Marcos, I started helping at my father’s social security office. Learning the ropes, I realized that any challenge my clients face in trying to navigate the differing benefits between Medicare, concerning items such as Medi-Cal, low income subsidy, and individual plan navigation. Given this, I decided to become a licensed agent full time to assist clients in receiving better benefits.

We’re curious to hear about how you met Martha and what the experience of working with her firm has been like for you.
Martha and I met in the beginning of 2019. She is a wonderful person to work with and has been a great resource not only to my clients, but to myself as well. She can help maintain their Medi-Cal benefits by establishing a living trust; also their finances will not go into rebate. People who would benefit working with Martha are those who have concerns about how their resources will be allotted after passing.

Can you tell us more about your insurance practice?
My primary goal is to educate my clients. Once people get their Medicare benefits they are unaware of how many additional benefits, through private insurance, are out there for them. For example, navigating changes in Medi-Cal, may change in what is available once they establish a level of income from social security. So going through the available options, I want my clients to be able to make an informed decision on their healthcare. At times, it could be even as simple as confirming that their employer care is the best option for them; but as long as they are secure in their benefits then I have accomplished my goal.

Has it been a smooth road? If not, can you tell us about some of the challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with any business there is always a learning curve. In my practice, learning all the different rulings for Medicare and the different plans, benefits and availability in each county of California has taken some time. However, listening to my clients’ needs and taking the time to research and relaying said information has been paramount in establishing trust and having them make informed decisions.
