Today we’d like to introduce you to Bernardo Buchsbaum.
Bernardo, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was laid off from my last job at Protingent and after being laid off twice in the staffing industry I decided that I could do things a better way and started my own company to follow through on my vision of a better staffing agency.
I was able to leverage my existing network to get things up and running. I have been at it for 3 years solid now
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Many challenges along the way. My first real exposure to handling things such as Accounting, Legal, and Marketing hands-on.
Also had some challenges finding the right partners to help move the business forward. Every day is a challenge for an entrepreneur. As scary as it can be at times, it’s thrilling and makes work extremely rewarding.
I am constantly learning and trying to apply failures and experiences to becoming better and creating a stronger company.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Blu Chips – what should we know?
We are a staffing agency. Our focus is on IT & Engineer and more recently we have been moving into Scientific/Biotech. We are known for finding candidates with hard to find technical skills that are in high demand.
I am most proud of the feedback from the candidates and the clients alike. Having the respect of your peers in the industry and creating a reliable brand that people come to know and trust is something I am very proud to be a part of.
What sets us apart is our attitude and our customer service. We have industry knowledge which helps us add value to the hiring process and we treat everyone the same. Our goal is to build relationships whether or not we are able to immediately help you.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Mentor – Tim Thompson – He gave me my start in the business 12 years ago and was my manager for 6 years. Tim actually came on board as a consultant for about 9 months and gave us a great shot in the arm. He’s someone I always count on for expert advise.
Partner/Cheerleader – My wife Karoline. She helped me get the company up and running and she was one of the primary recruiters when I didn’t have many resources. She also was my main cheerleader – believing in my vision.
