Today we’d like to introduce you to Betsy Kleiger.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Betsy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was an educator and consultant for over twelve years. Towards the end of my career, I was feeling very stifled creatively with the constraints of the ever-changing climate of education. On top of that my oldest son was diagnosed with ADHD and Dyslexia. I knew it was my time to leave.
Although I was no longer in the traditional workforce I craved an outlet from my life at home. Flabbutfab originated as an Instagram account. My account started gaining some traction and I was having so much fun sharing my life and my struggles that I launched my blog flabbutfab.com.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I would say it has been a winding road. Like many women who make the decision to be at home with their kids, I felt a lot of pressure to be superhuman as a way to compensate for not providing financially what I used to. I had so much to share but I found that a lot of the time I was not making myself and my blog a priority.
I knew I had to make the decision to re-commit to it or find something else. The thing is though when I am writing and creating I get a deep personal fulfillment that trickles into my family life, making me a happier mom and wife. So I recently decided to invest in myself and my website. I worked with an amazing graphic designer and recently relaunched my website, and it has been the most fantastic experience!
Please tell us more about your work.
My intention with this blog is to give you 100% real Betsy, the good the bad, the flab, and the fab. And in turn, you can give yourself 100% realness too. My mission is to build a safe community for all of us women to live our truth even if it’s not always pretty! I would say that I am most proud of the responses I get from women who are going through the same things as I am but are not yet ready to share their stories.
I can give them a voice and let them know that they are heard. I guess what sets me apart is that I am inherently an oversharer, and tell it like it is so when people read my blog they know that it is a no B.S. zone. I try to give my readers content that is relevant to their lives with a bit of humor and humility thrown in there.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over I would have been more consistent from the get-go. I have found that especially with a business started through social media, you need to make yourself visible and reliable on a regular basis.
