Meet Bjorn Andersen of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bjorn Andersen.

Hi Bjorn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I got started in digital marketing back in 2012 when I launched my first marketing agency. At the time, digital marketing looked very different than it does today, and I learned a lot by simply being in the trenches—building websites, working on SEO, running advertising campaigns, generating leads, and figuring out what actually helped businesses grow.

Over the years, the business evolved. I went through different company names, business partnerships, changes in direction, and plenty of lessons along the way. Like most entrepreneurs, the path was definitely not a straight line. But every stage helped me better understand marketing, business, technology, and, most importantly, what business owners actually need from a marketing company.

A few years ago, I started seeing what I believed was the next major shift in the industry: artificial intelligence. The way people search for businesses was beginning to change, automation was becoming dramatically more powerful, and AI was creating opportunities that simply didn’t exist before.

Instead of treating AI as just another service to add to a traditional marketing agency, I decided to really lean into it. That evolution eventually became LionBear.ai.

Today, LionBear.ai combines the marketing experience I’ve built over the past decade-plus with AI search optimization, digital marketing, websites, automation, and AI-powered systems designed specifically for local and service-based businesses. We’re based in La Jolla and work with businesses both locally and nationwide.

For me, LionBear.ai is really the culmination of everything I’ve learned since starting that first agency in 2012. Technology keeps changing, but the goal has always stayed pretty simple: help businesses get found, generate more opportunities, and build systems that allow them to grow.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most entrepreneurs, I’ve had plenty of ups and downs along the way.

Over the years, I’ve gone through different business partnerships, company changes, rebrands, difficult clients, shifting markets, and periods where I had to completely rethink the direction of the business. Running an agency also means constantly adapting. What worked in digital marketing five or ten years ago doesn’t necessarily work today, so you’re always learning, testing, and evolving.

One of the biggest challenges has been staying ahead of those changes instead of reacting to them too late. The transition into AI was a perfect example. I could see that search, marketing, automation, and the way consumers find businesses were changing quickly. That meant rebuilding parts of the business, learning new technology, changing our services, and helping clients understand why they needed to adapt as well.

There have also been the normal challenges that come with entrepreneurship—uncertainty, long hours, wearing multiple hats, making mistakes, and learning some lessons the hard way.

But those challenges have probably been the most valuable part of the journey. Every difficult period forced me to become better at business, better at marketing, and more focused on building something that could continue evolving rather than becoming outdated.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Today, my work sits at the intersection of marketing, technology, branding, and creativity.

Through LionBear.ai, I help local and service-based businesses grow through digital marketing, AI, search optimization, websites, advertising, and automation. But one of the parts of the work I’ve always enjoyed most is the creative side—helping a business figure out how it should look, sound, and communicate with its audience.

I originally got into a lot of this work through web design and graphic design, and that creative background has stayed with me throughout my career. I’m still very hands-on when it comes to the creative direction of our clients. Whether we’re building a website, developing an ad campaign, creating graphics, or refining messaging, I like being involved in how the brand is represented.

To me, marketing isn’t just about rankings, traffic, clicks, or leads. A business also needs an identity. It needs a recognizable visual brand, a clear voice, and messaging that actually connects with the people it wants to reach. Two companies can offer almost the exact same service, but the way they present themselves can completely change how people perceive them.

That’s probably one of the things that sets my approach apart. I look at the entire picture. We might be helping a company get discovered on Google or ChatGPT, running their advertising, or building automation behind the scenes, but I’m also thinking about what someone sees when they discover that business. Does the website represent them properly? Does the advertising stand out? Does the messaging sound like them? Does the brand feel memorable and different from every competitor in the market?

I’m a very creative person by nature, so that part of the work has never felt like something I wanted to completely hand off. I enjoy taking an idea and turning it into something tangible—whether that’s a brand, a website, an advertising concept, or an entire marketing system.

What I’m most proud of is being able to combine that creativity with more than a decade of marketing experience and the technology that’s available today through AI. LionBear.ai has evolved far beyond the type of agency I started in 2012, but that creative foundation is still a big part of how I approach the work.

At the end of the day, I want to help businesses do more than just generate leads. I want to help them build a brand that people recognize, connect with, and remember.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that might surprise people who only know me through LionBear.ai is that I probably think of myself as just as much of a creative as I do an entrepreneur or marketer.

Because the company is centered around AI and technology, people may assume that most of my day is spent on the technical side of the business. In reality, I still love being directly involved in the creative process. I shoot video and photography, develop content ideas, work on advertising concepts, help shape the visual direction of the brand, and spend a lot of time thinking about how we communicate.

I originally came into the industry through web design, graphic design, and digital marketing, so that creative side has always been a big part of who I am. Even as the business has grown and my role has expanded heavily into sales, strategy, and leadership, I’ve never really wanted to give that part up.

I think people sometimes expect the founder of an AI company to be sitting behind a computer focused entirely on technology. I’m just as happy being behind a camera, developing an ad concept, working on a brand, or creating something from scratch.
