Meet Fiona Leung and Chrissy Gray

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fiona Leung and Chrissy Gray.

Fiona and Chrissy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
A few years ago, a mutual friend introduced us, only to reconnect at a baby shower in 2017. And it’s fortunate we did because Bliss Out Camp Out was born then. We married two ideas: Fiona wanted to launch an all-women networking event that was different from what else was out there, while Chrissy was exploring starting an adventure retreat. The next day, we were looking for camp spots.

Has it been a smooth road?
Kinda both. Smooth in the sense of a hunger for our concept – a three-day, two-night digital detox retreat for the modern woman. And we’re both MacGyver-y. That is, able to take what comes at us if you’re not up on your 80’s references. Still, the challenges were nonstop: finding the right space, event logistics, pinpointing our audience, budgets, etc. But we work hard, and we’re patient. More than that, when we don’t know how to do something, we learn how to do it.

Please tell us about your business.
As mentioned, Bliss Out Camp Out is a three day, two night retreat inspired by summer camps. The women that come to our camps do it all. They are physicians, CEOs, artists, mothers, scientists, chefs, athletes, and more. While we attract accomplished women, your title and background don’t matter so much. What matters is connecting with other women, sans phones.

Our workshops include Krav Maga, archery, art, cooking, sound bowl meditation, and yoga as well as entertainment, massage, and reiki. It culminates with a keynote speaker, who over campfire s’mores shares her journey.

We’re grateful to past speakers Dawn Barry (former Illumina vice president and president of LunaBPC), Tiffany von Soest (5x Muay Thai World Champion and 2x Glory Kickboxing World Champion), Dr. Samar Rashid (Scripps Health), and Amy Bergen (Vice President of Business Development of Leadership Edge).

What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business?
It’s been hard work with a spoonful of luck. As for the former, I’m a big believer in that if you see something lacking in the community, go fill that void. Do it. Regret is worse than failure. At the same time, we’re fortunate to have a community of women that support our camp and have rooted for our success since day one. They’re successful and busy but still take the time to help us grow. We are forever grateful and try to pay it forward.
