Today we’d like to introduce you to Braeden Pato.
Hi Braeden, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began doing photography about four years ago. I had the random urge to invest in a camera, and once I did, I instantly fell in love. I spent the first couple of years learning the art and really got serious with photography/videography about a year and a half ago. I began shooting everyday, built a website to showcase and sell my art, and started to build a client base. About a year ago, I invested in a water housing so I could bring my camera with me into the ocean. Being that I have been surfing for 14 years and have a deep love for the ocean, surf/ocean photography became my favorite thing ever. Although I shoot all types of photography from portraits to landscapes to architecture to travel, surf photography is where most of my time is spent.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
During my photography/videography career, I have faced many obstacles and it has been far from a smooth road. The most difficult challenge I found was being discouraged by other’s work. I would always compare myself and my own work to other’s work and feel that I wasn’t as good as them and never could create art as good as theirs. Another main struggle was building my client base and popularity. When I first started out, finding people to book me for a shoot rather than another more established photographer was difficult. My main resolution to this was starting out shooting for family friends that I had already known and using word of mouth and my growing portfolio to grow my client base.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer and videographer. I shoot all types of categories from landscapes to portraits to architecture to travel; however, my biggest passion is in surf/ocean photography. I use a water housing to bring my camera equipment into the water and capture the waves, surfers, and all other aspects of the ocean. I am most proud of where I am at today. It has been a long journey from earning the money to invest in equipment to learning techniques and to learning to edit. I believe what sets me apart from others is my passion and work ethic. If I want something done or want to achieve a goal, I will do anything and everything it takes to achieve it.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My biggest supporter throughout my journey has been my mom. Throughout my photography journey, my mom has supported me through everything. She has supported my work and at times even helped me out financially so I could chase my dreams.
