Meet Branson Fivas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Branson Fivas.

Branson, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started booking shows a few years back, mainly just so my band had shows to play. I would contact the venues and book a date and then starting booking bands to play with us. After that, my friends would start asking me to book shows for their bands and eventually word spread and now touring acts contact me to put together shows for them here. I mainly book at smaller venues like Tower Bar, Til-Two, Ken Club etc.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been fairly smooth. Most people you meet that play in smaller bands are typically really nice, especially if you helped them book the show. That being said, I have dealt with a few bands that think they are rockstars and throw fits over things but for the most part its been smooth.

Tell us about your company.
Freak Out! is a Booking/Promotion company. I do everything from booking the venues and bands, creating the flier, promoting the event, helping the bands with setup/break down and then making sure the bands get their cut of money from the show. It’s really rewarding for me as a musician. I get to see so many great bands and meet awesome people through these shows. San Diego has SO MANY amazing bands that deserve more attention than they are getting and I like trying to help them out.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I think my favorite show I’ve ever put together was with Tiltwheel headlining. They are one of my favorite local bands and have been doing it for so long. It was Tiltwheel, Noble Bones (Lancaster), The Downsides (Victorville) and The Dodges (San Diego). The Dodges are currently one of my favorite bands. I highly recommend that people check them out.
