Today we’d like to introduce you to Bri Alexander.
Bri, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My journey started when my sister moved to Texas for a new job; I realized then that I needed a hobby. I was scrolling through Pinterest and saw beautiful painting and thought that was something I wanted to try. I made a trip to Michaels in March 2019 and as they say, the rest is history. I have had a tremendous amount of support, encouragement, and praise from family and friends.
After I finished the first painting, I found that it was not only fun, but therapeutic. It allowed me to clear my mind and create something that I felt not just putting colors together…One of my favorite quotes comes from Pablo Picasso–“painting is just another way of keeping a diary.” I am not very good at putting words together to express my feelings, but creating art allows my feelings to flow. I could feel my creative juices flowing and wanted to do more and more. I started looking at YouTube videos to get inspiration and found many other mediums that I could incorporate into my work. I love making beautiful things for people that make the smile.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This process so far (knock on wood) has been incredibly smooth. I have had the usual creative roadblocks where colors just don’t work or the vision didn’t come alive, but all in all pretty easy. I like to say it has come natural for me.
Please tell us more about your art, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I create works of art with acrylic paint pouring, alcohol ink and resin. The possibilities are endless and everyday, I find something new to try. When I started I only used acrylic paint and canvas, now I have found ways to use resin with different pigments and inks to create vibrant coasters, pop sockets, and jewelry.
I am most proud of creating pieces of art that are commissioned by wonderful people that want to support my venture. This is only the beginning for me; I have dreams of hosting classes and helping others tap into their creativeness. I want to work with the mental health community and children to provide an avenue of expression that is yet to be tapped into.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I had a wonderful, full, happy childhood. I remember all of the adventures my parents took us on and exposed us to all year round. We had camping trips every summer, block parties in our neighborhood to celebrate each holiday, pumpkin patch picnics, planting veggie gardens in the backyard and learning how to cook at a very young age…the list goes on and on. I truly believe this allowed me to be an individual and grow to love what I do.
