Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Beechler.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a San Diego native, I have enjoyed creating memorable experiences in the restaurant industry for 20+ years. I’ve learned that the necessary ingredients for a happy stomach is maintaining high standards, providing great customer service and offering a flavorful menu. At the heart of Grinds & Vine Coffee Bar is authenticity, friendliness and fun.
This is evidenced by the close relationships that Brian and his staff have with each and every guest who comes to visit, for they believe that, “When you’re here, your family.” When you try one of our creations, don’t give all the praise to Brian just yet. After a lifetime of shadowing his biggest role model and his most inspirational chef, Brian credits his father with all he knows as he, “Learned from the best.”
When I’m not at Grinds & Vine or inside Negociant Winery next door, you can find me and our floor supervisor, Athena at Petco Ball Park. As an avid baseball fan, my passion and expertise in service can all be traced back to the ballpark. Growing up playing and loving baseball, I learned how to be a team player and build long-lasting relationships.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Grinds and Vine has been well received by the North Park community. While not having a street presence and great visibility, Grinds and Vine have had to rely on word of mouth to generate business, hence our standards for high-quality service and product. Recently, our parking lot and ally way has been blocked off to thru traffic due to construction, greatly impacting the steady stream of our grab-and-go guests.
This, without doubt, has been a challenge for Grinds and Vine. However, this has allowed us to be even more innovative in the food items that we serve and has instilled an unrelenting diligence to give superior customer service. What has temporarily hindered Grinds and Vine has allowed us to learn the perfect recipe for happy guests and smiling bellies.
Grinds & Vine Coffee Bar – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
“Where Creativity and Flavor Unite”
San Diego is a sunny and 75-degree paradise. There isn’t much more that can make life much better here, except unique coffee drinks and one-of-a-kind sandwiches created to satisfy every belly in San Diego.
Grinds and Vine Coffee Bar is known for its attention to detail, not only in every drink and food item that we serve but in the manner by which we treat our guests. If you were to ask any one of our guests what drink items makes us unique, it might have to be our educational cold brew flight tastings, cold brew creations or perhaps are not too sweet “Chango Blanco” blended drink, designed to attract even the top coffee aficionados. While each guest can expect a high-quality coffee drinking experience.
Our food is also what keeps our guests coming back. Don’t let our “Coffee Bar” title fool you, guests come in for breakfast, lunch, and dinner to fill up on our local favorites like the “Better Beech” or the “Hangover” breakfast sandwiches. Our “El Puerco and El Cajon” breakfast burritos, or our “Texas Street” smoked pork Syrah barbecue sandwich that’s served on a delectable pretzel bun. These are just a few of amazingly delicious items available at our establishment.
Maybe it’s our homemade sauces and fresh ingredients, or maybe it’s our prices, whatever the case is, Grinds and Vine guests experience high-quality food at reasonable prices. We aren’t a heat up and serve kind of coffee bar, we’re a take a seat and let us “grind and dine” your coffee bar.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, the definition of success in any business can be seen in the longevity of the establishment, coupled with the connection that a business has to the community it serves. When I created Grinds and Vine, I created it with the purpose to not only serve the community but to connect with the community.
Seeing smiling customers leave my establishment is a part of my definition of success, but having them return with friends and family is my definition of success. Having the opportunity to get to know my guests, and be a part of their lives in any way was my goal for Grinds and Vine. I hope to create a place that is a part of any San Diegan’s hobbies and in turn a part of their memories. For Grinds and Vine, success is built on the relationships and connections to the community that I serve.
