Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana McDonald.
Hi Briana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started doing hair over 16 years ago and never dreamed that I would be where I am now. I went to school and began my career up in Portland, OR and then moved to San Diego over six years ago. Moving here was the best thing I could have done for my career and my life in general!
I didn’t always think that I would open a salon, but I always felt like I was living a double life. At home, I was very conscious of what I put in, on and around my body – trying my best to eat healthy and to be aware of all the harmful ingredients in the products we use. At work, I was around toxic chemicals all day, and I knew there had to be another way to live. This is how Green + Anchor Salon came to be!
I wanted Green + Anchor to be San Diego’s first holistic salon, using professional products and color without the use of unnecessary chemicals. We opened our doors in January 2018 and now almost at the end of our fourth year!
We are now known for eco-luxury color services and the most natural-looking hair extensions. I am beyond blessed to be where I am today. I’ve worked really hard to transition my personal clientele to exclusively hair extensions while helping other Stylists reinvent their businesses to have a healthy work/life balance!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have not been walk in the park and have not come without a lot of stress, tears, sacrifice, and trust! The biggest challenges honestly have stemmed from all the crazy laws in our industry regarding employees and how you can and can’t compensate them – which I know a lot of business owners can relate to. Long story short, we had to make the hard decision of having to switch our independent contractors to employees. We ended up losing most of our team during this time, and there was a point when I thought I had to close the doors to my salon.
The beautiful thing about this was that six months later, I ended up with the strongest team I had ever had! Beauty really does come from ashes when you are on the right path! And I couldn’t have survived all the tough times without my supportive husband and family, and most importantly, my relationship with God.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I have the best job of being able to help women feel more confident in their own skin! By adding thickness and length to hair, I get to help women feel beautiful & powerful. I love hair extensions and am so happy to have re-discovered my passion for hair in this specialized art form.
What sets me apart is my dedication to my hair extension education and attention to detail. I have worked hard the past four years to learn three different hand-tied hair extension methods and have been a part of countless hours of extended education programs. Hair extensions have been a part of my life for 16+ years, and I can confidently say that we offer the best Luxury Handtied Hair Extensions in San Diego.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
We coined the term Eco-Luxury to articulate the vibe of Green + Anchor Salon – while being earth conscious with our products, we strive to deliver a luxury experience & service to our guests – where nature meets luxury!
