Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana Robinson.
Briana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Boston, and raised in Mystic, CT. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design, I completed a tattoo apprenticeship in Connecticut. About a year later, I found my home away from home in sunny San Diego. I opened a tattoo shop called BUJU Tattoo~ named after my sweet Pitbull, Buju. She is our boss!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The transition from paper to skin was tricky at first. Originally, I didn’t think that it was possible to make a tattoo that looks like a painting, after years of practice, I figured it out! I love using vibrant colors that illuminate the skin~ black lines are strictly optional.
BujuTattoo – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Buju Tattoo exudes a bright, warm, and welcoming aesthetic. When opening my shop, I focused on creating an unintimidating atmosphere. It is minty green, and covered with plants and flowers. The chandeliers that hang from the high ceilings, large windows, and skylight infiltrate the shop with rainbow light.
I think I am most proud of my BUJU team. Everyone that works at the shop is my best friend. They are seven of the sweetest and kind-hearted people that I know. Together, we offer a wide range of styles, talents, and capabilities.
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
The proudest moment of my career was opening my tattoo shop~ I love that it is a creative home for me and my friends.
