Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridgette Barker.
Hi Bridgette, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m a Miami native with a strong thirst for the coastal sun. Unable to avoid it, I moved from the Sunshine State to the Golden State in search of even more of it. As I began to adapt to new surroundings, I developed two mainstays in my new Californian life: A green thumb & a love for the thrift. And so it began…
Queen of Vase began with a quiet fascination of the art that nature develops outside, combined with a passion in collecting life’s tangible treasures. Amidst the 2020 pandemic, this quiet became louder than ever. It has developed into an obsession in fusing this natural art with the uniqueness of strange vases and enhancing it with a personal touch of flare.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If it was a smooth road, everyone would be doing it hah! I knew that starting my own business would require me to get a part-time job so that I could make ends meet, at least in the beginning. So while it has been an adjustment financially, I have to keep reminding myself that this is the start of a new venture and that it fulfills me in ways no previous 9-5 ever did.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Whether its story begins in a Venetian glass factory or seems to end on a dusty shelf of a desert thrift, Queen of Vase is on a mission to spark a lustful romance between it and its long-lost lover, the flower. Each creation has its own personality. Whether you’re into minimal, vintage, modern, or funky, Queen of Vase ensures that your day or event is brightened with a vase that you’ve probably never seen before and paired with a floral arrangement that will put a sparkle in your eye.
While most florists’ focus are on the flowers, the whole purpose of Queen of Vase is to give some love to the vase, which ultimately will be more loyal to you. It was built on the concept of Second-Hand Sustainability. Whether the vase was rediscovered with an “antique,” “thrift” or “vintage” label, every vase has been hand-picked, ensuring that new resources need not be used up on our watch.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Funny enough, I was actually quite shy growing up! No one believes me when I say it, hah. I would hide behind my mom anywhere we went and my parents were always trying to break me out of my shell. At the age of 11 or so, I finally broke out of my shell and there was no stopping me. Since then, I’ve always been the adventurous type. I am a true Sagittarius and am always on the search for a new experience. I’m outgoing, social, and love to have fun, perhaps a little too much fun (: Whether that fun be discovering a new spot, dancing or skating to my favorite tunes, heading down to Mexico, discovering new music or simply being surrounded by the people I love, I can truly say I live life to the fullest. Besides the obvious of having a passion for finding unique pieces (both vases and fashion), I have become obsessed with learning all about flowers and I know this is just the beginning.
