Meet Brie Watson of Photography By Brie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brie Watson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I had dreams of being a photographer for as long as I can remember. I was gifted my first film camera in the 1st grade and quickly became the “girl that takes the all the photos” at any gathering with my family and friends. I feel the most free with a camera in my hands.

I started my business about 9 years ago, and have been blessed to meet and photograph the most wonderful people. Being a photographer has taken me to beautiful places. I love to hear the stories of the people that I shoot and really get to know them and form relationships with them. I’ve loved learning and documenting the culture of the place I live and the people that dwell in those places.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s not always been easy but definitely rewarding. I’m also a military wife so I’ve had to relocate every few years since my I started up my business. Which means I have had to rebuild clientele over and over again. With that being said.. I’ve also been able to photograph people all over the united states. I’ve shot weddings from California all the way to Virginia. I also started my business before the age of social media, so I didn’t have as much access to online education or the support of other photographers at my fingertips. I’ve had to work really hard to educate myself and not get lost in masses.

Photography By Brie – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a photographer that specializes in wedding photography, but I also photograph families, children, and seniors. I also have the most awesome side job as a field scout with a company called hip camp, where I get to photograph private landowners campsites! It’s amazing!

When I think about my years of being a photographer, I feel the most proud of weddings I’ve been able to travel to and document. I feel that my heart is what sets me apart from other photographers. I become deeply connected to my clients and always feel that I come away from each session with new friends. Some of the people I’ve photographed, I’ve shot for years. I’ve watched couples go from getting engaged, to starting their families and watching them grow over the years.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success as a self-fulfillment. I may not have made the most money in my industry but I’ve kept going and kept my passion alive for almost a decade. That makes me feel successful. I’m still as in love with photography as I was the day I was gifted my first little neon orange 110 film camera. I also feel the most successful when I deliver images to people who tell me they were moved to tears while looking at them. There is no better feeling than to give people priceless memories that move them deeply.
