Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Mazzone.
Brittney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I absolutely love hiking! I was looking for local hiking groups and joined a few events. At the time, I felt unaware of upcoming hikes and was nervous to join. I saw that Hiker Babes was looking for ambassadors to lead monthly hikes for women in the San Diego area and I jumped on the opportunity! It’s been such an amazing experience meeting likeminded hikers!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
On the very first hike, I led, one of the hikers got annoyed that was I walking too fast and talking to too many people. In my mind, I was like, “isn’t that what this is about?!” Moving forward, I make sure all the invited hikers know the distance and difficulty level of each trail.
Please tell us about San Diego Chapter of Hiker Babes.
Hiker Babes is an organization started by Monique Redmon to bring together like-minded female hikers. There are now several chapters across the country. I’m happy to be one of the ambassadors for the San Diego Chapter.
