Today we’d like to introduce you to Britton Hurley.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Ah love this question. It’s been a crazy ride with my love of travel and how Britton Travel Co. even became an idea or a possibility.
My dad’s a writer and was the editor of a travel magazine back in my hometown in Alabama. I grew up hearing his stories about going all over the world and I was obsessed — that’s probably what sparked my first interest.
Fast forward to high school: I “got in trouble” one year and my parents sent me on a three-week outdoor adventure program for teens – no phone, sleeping in tents, and my first time getting on a plane alone at 14. It completely changed my life. I ended up going on a new trip with that same company every summer through high school, and eventually, in college, I came back as a trip leader with them for three summers straight. Taking 12 kids around the globe – sometimes for their very first trip – and watching travel impact them the way it had impacted me made me 100% certain I wanted to create that feeling for others. I was hooked.
After college, I wasn’t ready for the corporate world yet (is anyone? lol), so I moved to Thailand to teach English for a year (pre-COVID). It was my first time truly solo traveling, and it opened my eyes in every way. When I came home, I decided it was time to get some corporate experience, so I jumped into my first sales job – and loved it. That led to two more roles in travel tech sales and then group travel sales.
Both jobs taught me so much, but I knew I wanted something more creative, more flexible, where I could be my own boss. So, in May 2025, I left my corporate travel sales job and started building Britton Travel Co. – customized, personal travel planning. This business is my baby and my dream, and I’m so stoked to officially launch on Tuesday, August 12th.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think the hardest part was just taking the jump. For years and years I’ve always talked about wanting to be my own boss, make my own decisions, and have a flexible life that lets me travel whenever I want – but I was terrified to actually make it happen. Am I too broke to start this? Will people like it? Do people even need this?
The back and forth in my head was the toughest part – constantly fighting between my head and my heart. But once I made the decision to just send it, I’ve never felt more free or aligned. It also made me realize how miserable I actually was in all my other positions, so I know I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.
The building phase has definitely been scary – there’s a lot a lot to learn – but it’s actually been so fun. I’m finally learning things I enjoy in the process, and that’s been the best part.
As you know, we’re big fans of Britton Travel Co.. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Wow wow wow, LOVE these questions. Britton Travel Co. is a travel planning agency that builds customized, personal, and unique trips that fit your vibe. Whether you need full-service help — booking accommodations, activities, restaurant reservations, and creating a full itinerary — or you just want a curated list of the best things to do in your destination, I can do anything and everything.
I started Britton Travel Co. because I feel like a lot of travel agents in the market, that I’ve seen, only offer one type of experience — the luxury, all-inclusive resort vibe. That’s great (and I can totally plan that if it’s your thing), but I wanted to create something that works for any traveler and any style. If you’re looking into a first solo backpacking trip, a unique bachelorette weekend, a family road trip, or a once-in-a-lifetime luxury escape — I’m here for it and can create it. I believe travel should reflect you, and stepping outside your comfort zone is one of the best ways to learn about yourself and the world. I wanted my business to reflect that variety and possibility so no matter what kind of trip you’re dreaming up, we can make it happen.
What sets me apart is the range of experiences I can plan. I’ve personally experienced it all — solo travel, group trips, luxury resorts, budget adventures – so I can help make any trip happen, no matter your style. My brand is unique, personable, and honestly, just really fun. I’m super flexible, and no matter how small or big your idea is, I’m always down to hop on a call and come up with something that works for you. If you’re worried about PTO or budget, we can work around it and still create something incredible. My favorite thing in the world is talking travel and connecting with people through it.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
The first thing that comes to mind with this question is riding home from my grandparents’ house every Sunday night growing up with my dad. Every week, our whole family — grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles — would meet at my grandparents’ house for dinner, we called it “chicken and biscuits.” (No clue why). My parents always drove separate cars, my mom coming from home, my dad coming from the office, so after dinner I’d ride home with my dad, just the two of us. He’d let me sit in the front seat, every single window down, the sunroof open, blaring his favorite music — which of course became my favorite music, too – blasting through the speakers. It was only a 20-minute drive, but those nights with just me and my dad with the wind in my face and the music turned all the way up are some of my happiest memories.
