Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Brun.
Brooke, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a Northern California native, I moved to San Diego in 2000 and kicked off my career in Human Resources. After 10 years in the HR industry and armed with the dream of becoming my own boss, I left the corporate world to follow my strong drive to find a career focused on helping others. Inspired by my own health journey, which included challenges with seizures, chronic depression, anxiety and fatigue, I set out in search of alternative options to combating these symptoms.
After years of doctors’ visits and more prescription drugs, I had an instinct that the high dosage of pharmaceutical medications was beginning to cause unhealthy side effects.
Seeking a healthier solution, I started to explore the therapeutic benefits of essential oils. Soon after I noticed an improvement in my health both physically and emotionally. This prompted a decision to make a lifestyle change, which included teaming up with Katie (my best friend) and launching KB Pure Essentials.
Living with the newly found benefits of essential oils, I began searching for even more alternatives to seizure medications. In my search, I discovered CBD and it’s success in treating epilepsy. This launched Katie’s and my efforts in formulating a high-quality CBD oil, that I could test on myself. The change was so dramatic and improved I knew the introduction of CBD into KB Pure Essential products was a must. Seeing these incredible results in my own health, I was immediately drawn to the idea of helping others heal themselves naturally.
Together with Katie, we created a new vision for our company – to make an all-natural line of hemp CBD products to positively improve people’s lives. Drawing on my HR experience, I built an infrastructure for KBPE aimed at scaling the company’s growth. As an advocate for empowering women, I set out to build a team of other like-minded women. My passion and drive for success has constantly pushed me to learn new skills that will benefit the public, my team and myself.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been anything a smooth road! The biggest struggle has been focusing on any personal goals like traveling, buying a home, getting a paycheck! Running my own business means paying myself last, and often not at all. Luckily Katie and I have a really solid relationship; we live together, work together and are best friends. It’s also a struggle to really live what we preach.
Every day we put effort into making sure our mental health is sharp and our connections are strong. I go to therapy, journal daily, meditate and of course, use CBD. I especially have to be careful because lack of sleep and stress are my two main triggers for seizures.
This is a constant challenge because owning a business is always stressful and I’m always on call. I am pulled in many different directions and wear many different hats in an industry that is constantly changing and always on the brink of losing federal support.
While the cannabis industry is becoming more formalized and less taboo, we still face many challenges including advertising, merchant processing and global distribution. I know that the future is bright and I know I am building a company that improves people’s quality of life, including my own. Knowing that helps get me through any challenge.

KB Pure Essentials is a lifestyle company offering an all-natural line of wellness and beauty products formulated with Hemp CBD. Our goal is to bring the life and health changing benefits of Hemp CBD to every individual through easy accessibility while leading the way in community education. We are located in San Diego, California, and the company was originally formulated in 2013 as an all-natural wellness brand and by early 2015 we began to incorporate Hemp CBD into our product line. I think Kb Pure Essentials is most known for our story: Driven by past experience and an eagerness to improve our own health, we were the first to test our Hemp CBD oil on ourselves. Having dealt with health challenges related to epilepsy, I began to suffer from the side effects of my anti-seizure medication. Feeling frustrated with my situation, I believed there had to be a better way (a more natural way) to treat my condition. After testing several different brands of CBD products on the market at that time, none of them provided the results she was hoping for. This led to the idea of making the CBD oil themselves and incorporating it into their current product line.
KB Pure Essentials exists because Katie and I have experienced the powerful benefits of Hemp CBD. It is our mission to BREAK THE STIGMA surrounding this SUPER herb while providing quality products that can truly help change lives. We are out in the community every week at Farmer’s Markets, Fundraiser and other events to educate the public about cannabis in all its uses and forms!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment so far for me was when one of my team members came up to me and said that this is the first job she had where she didn’t feel she had to change WHO she was when she walked in the door. While making quality Hemp CBD more easily accessible to people everywhere is the mission of our company… it was always my dream to build a company where any team member at any level feels safe, supported and that what they are doing is making a difference in the world. Creating a culture that feels more like team building with friends than a means to an end was challenging, but is the most fulfilling. I do what I love with people that I love!
