Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruna Dóllor.
Bruna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Hi, I am 25 and I am from Brazil. Before moving to San Diego and building my own business, I was studying petroleum engineering in Rio de Janeiro and working part-time for an online company. I was responsible for creating and managing all the online advertisements.
The year 2016 was the beginning of a lot of changes in my life. I needed to find a job as a trainee to complete my degree but it was hard for me to find work because I didn’t know how to speak English ( speaking English was a requirement for that position). In March of that year, my boyfriend told me he got this girl pregnant. In June, my aunt passed away. It was hard to deal with everything happening all at once and I started going into a deep depression. I knew I wanted to feel “normal” again and I knew that I needed to do something for myself.
So, I decided to travel outside of Brazil to learn English and a different culture. On October, 10th, 2016, I arrived in San Diego. I flew by myself and I didn’t know anyone here but I was determinate.
My plans were staying here for 6 months and I’ve been living in San Diego for almost three years now. Why? I found more than a different culture. I found opportunities to make things happen in my life. I was studying English and still working for that company in Brazil but I wanted to do something for myself. I wanted to run my own business because I was tired of working in different jobs where people wouldn’t see my value, where I was feeling overwhelmed, tired, worthless and unhappy. I wanted to create my own schedule and make my own salary.
So, I started putting it into work. I started writing down my plans, my business goals and all of my ideas in August 2018. During that year, I was also taking marketing classes. I did some tests and experiences here and there but I officially launched the Yellowbrella Creative on June 11th, 2019. Actually, I launched my business under Women Who Create, an extension platform from my company focused on hosting events for women entrepreneurs to help them generate more sales in their business.
On June, 11th, I did an event, launched my company and everything started working. I could quit from all of my side jobs the day after the event and since then I keep getting clients, after clients. Selling training after training and working to grow my business and help as many women entrepreneurs as I can to create a solid, profitable and successful business.
I truly believe if I can do it, anyone can do it too. I am from Brazil, I didn’t know how to speak English three years ago and I am here by myself. I built my own business, I learned English in a year and even it’s not perfect, I still can hold a lot of women listening to me for more than 3 hours straight and help them to achieve the results they want. Nothing is impossible if you believe you can. Everything you need is already within you.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are some challenges that’s for sure.
I had a whole team helping me in Brazil when I was working as a business coach. I’ve been doing everything by myself under the Yellowbrella Creative and I’ve been contracting people only when I need extra help. That causes me timing management issues but I am already working on it.
Everything else is a normal process. I know it takes time (and good marketing) to leverage my business and reach a bigger audience but I am still able to generate the income I need for my business at the point I am right now.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Yellowbrella Creative story. Tell us more about it.

Honestly, I don’t believe in luck. I believe in hard work and that everything happens for a reason that it’s designed for.
