Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Courson.
Caitlin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growin up on a sailboat for the first nine years of my life meant relying on my imagination and creativity was never a weakness. Fast forward, in college I worked & interned at a tattoo parlor near campus. They hired me as their receptionist and in between calls & walk-in’s, I would draw their Flash Sheets (common tattoo designs or examples displayed in tattoo shops). I’ve always joked that if I could change my skin like I change my clothes I’d be covered in tattoos.
Permanent body art has always been alluring and romantic to me but it wasn’t until 10yrs after the first taste that I found my niche in the body art industry. I took my first primary cosmetic tattooing course in 2016 at Huntington Academy of Permanent Cosmetics… I was ignited. I took every advancement course I could get my hands on.
By the end of 2018, I began my own Permanent MakeUp company called “Captured Classics Permanent Makeup,” had trained with three different master Permanent MakeUp Artists (each with 20+ years experience in the cosmetic & paramedical tattooing industry), became a member of the world renowned Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals (SPCP) and was welcomed on as a teacher at Huntington Academy of Permanent Cosmetics!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My biggest struggle has been outwitting the doubt-devil on my shoulder; constantly pooping on my confidence. Convincing someone to trust you with tattooing their face or correcting a scar they have received from fighting a life threatening illness takes time, practice and most importantly a love for what you do. I can be more critical of my work than my clients. I would physically sweat with anxiety when something wouldn’t look just perfect. It took over a year for my confidence to “Spartan kick” that devil and I live by “tattoo everyone like they are family.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Hard work and an urge to constantly learn have been the backbone of my success in life and business. Luck makes an appearance from time to time but I was always told luck can only take you so far, being prepared is what allows for opportunities to become monumental life changers. Having an amazing family and husband as cheerleaders doesn’t hurt either.
