So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The company was founded by Dave Soko in the summer of 2017 but was being developed at least up to a year prior. The idea behind Soko was to bring a fresh new feel to the cannabis industry. A brand that represents quality, creativity and settling for nothing less than the absolute best. As we continue to grow we want to maintain the characteristics that make us distinctive and sets us apart – being influential, innovative and progressive.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Developing a company in an industry as convoluted as the cannabis industry is no easy feat. Especially at the time, we entered the market, mid-2017. A lot of things were changing. A prohibition was ending essentially (as far as the state is concerned). But even with cannabis being legal in California it is still illegal federally, so we have to constantly operate in the unknown and unpredictable.
Please tell us about SōKO Canna.
We are a lifestyle cannabis brand that specializes in full-spectrum oils and topicals. We are known for our deliciously natural vapes that pack a punch. We believe in going the extra mile on behalf of our customers. All of our products are made from certified organic flower grown locally in California. They contain no cuts or harmful chemicals and hold all of the medicinal value people look for when consuming cannabis products.
What sets us apart aside from our attention to detail is our love for arts and fashion. We have a staple event that we hold a few times yearly at Lafayette Hotel called the SoKO Cannabis Ball. This event is in collaboration with fashion designers, stylists, and other creative individuals. The idea is to connect talented people and introduce the local cannabis community to the new look and feel we bring to the industry.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I’ve always been very competitive and have enjoyed winning. I grew up playing sports my entire life and one of my fondest memories from my younger years is when all of my family came to town to watch me play basketball and I ended up making a game-winning shot. That was a proud moment for sure.
