Today we’d like to introduce you to Camila Margotta.
Camila, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Even though I didn’t really dive into photography until recently, I have been into photography ever since I could remember. I always loved recording every special moment through photographs. When I had my first job in high school the one thing that I made sure to buy as a gift to myself was a camera. It was a simple point and shoot digital camera, but I was so proud of that camera I took it everywhere and just took pictures of everything. Fast forward a few years and after getting married my husband and I decided to invest in a DSLR camera. With that camera is when my interest in photography really sparked. I started photographing everything and everyone around me. But, part of me thought that not much could come out of it and another part of me got intimidated to really dive into it I put my camera down and decided to go back to school.
So, life went on… I went to school and got my associates. While finishing up school I had my first daughter and enjoyed being a stay at home mom with her; then I had my second daughter three years later. It was because of them that I picked up the camera again. I just wanted to capture all these special moments with them, I want to be able to capture every stage of their lives, all the special moments. Now that I get to go back and look at these pictures of them, even from a year ago, is when I realized how special that is and that I wanted to be able to do that for other people. To be able to capture these special moments in our lives with our loved ones.
With that, I started putting my all into learning more and more beyond the basics, and the more I learned the more I knew that this is what I was called to do.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. To start, learning about photography has been very time-consuming. But, I was determined I was not going to put myself out there until I was confident I was producing the kind of images I was proud of. Of course, there is always more to learn and I am the kind of person who will never stop learning.
But, most of all, I knew nothing about running my own business. So learning about how to set up and run a business has definitely been the biggest struggle.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Camila Margotta Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
There is just something about looking at a photograph and going right back to that moment when the picture was taken. I have always loved these photographs that you can look at them and know exactly what the emotions were.
To go back to that point in time and feel those emotions all over again. That is what I love about photography and why I decided to pursue it with all I have. I want to capture all these raw emotions so that when my clients look back at their photographs they can go right back to that moment and feel those same emotions.
When I meet with my clients I try to really get to know them so that when it comes time for me to photograph them I am able to capture them as they really are. That way I can tell their story especially tailored to them; may it be a family welcoming a new baby or a couple who is so madly in love and about to get married.
