Meet Candace Hudnell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Hudnell.

Candace, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started acting when I was seven years old. I started out with school plays and showcases, then when I got to college, I did a few shows in Chicago for Theatre Momemtum and The Runaways Lab Theatre.

Has it been a smooth road?
There’s definitely challenges. I think the type of roles available to women of color tend to be limited, though this is getting a little better. I also connect well with more fringe, experimental projects, so I tend to get pegged more in that bubble.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
So, I am a currently represented by Tiffin Creative Talent as a Theatrical Actor. My most recent credits are “Broad” and “The Story of Us” directed by Rick Garcia. I also participated in 2018 San Diego 48 Hour Film Project with Redline Cinema’s submission “Crossed”. I think what sets me apart is that I don’t scare very easily; acting-wise. I’m kind of ok with trying something and it not working out and then trying again. I try not to take these things too personally or get caught up in my own head about if I’m going to embarrass myself.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think there are a lot of big shifts happening. I notice more storytelling techniques going mainstream that used to be considered more “experimental”. This is really exciting to me as someone who cut their teeth in Chicago; which is all about alternative storytelling styles like improv, movement-based work, and non-linear plots.
