Thanks for sharing your story with us Carlos. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Where do I start!? It’s been quite the journey. I’ve always had a passion for fitness ever since I graduated high school. I was lost and did not know what I wanted to pursue. I’ve done landscaping, manufacturing, Retail, etc. I finally choose to follow what came natural which was fitness. I got my PT license and applied to a big box gym. After working there for a couple months, I knew it wasn’t for me. I wanted to help people understand and utilize fitness with no catch. With that being said, at the time in San Diego and to this day; you can find a boot camp anywhere and everywhere. I wanted to create something unique that involved the type of workout you search for in a boot camp but with way more fun! I call it fitness re-imagined! With the money I made from the big box gym, I bought some equipment and started my journey in June of 2017. A Synergy Affair was born.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been everything but a smooth road. You see, the thing about ambition is you want everything to go the way you envision it. To add, you want it fast and now! When you’re just starting out it might not seem that bad. The more action you take towards what your true goal is, the more you start to see all the moving parts of your business. For me, I wanted to create fun fitness for free! Little did I know, fun from my perspective came at a price. I started to realize I was going to need to spend the money and not get any back in return. Why do you ask? So that I can provide water, equipment, gas, clothing, paperwork, etc. Moreover, getting people to show up. Once friends and family support starts to wear off was one of the most challenging hurdles to overcome. One of the most heart-wrenching complications I had to deal with and am still dealing with is the park rangers. I have huge Zorb inflatable bubble balls that I use for various different activities during these events. San Diego parks do not allow these inflatables in their parks at all. After investing hundreds of dollars and time into this type of workouts that people loved. It was devastating to hear this news. So, for now, I am running the events without the inflatables until I find a new location that allows them. It’s been amazing because it challenged me to create fun exciting workouts without the awesome toys. San Diego seems to love A Synergy Affair for what it is. A competitive and fun workout for free!

A Synergy Affair specializes in competition and teamwork. Combining these two ingredients give you an amazing workout without you even realizing it. With other fitness events/boot camps, there are so many instructions. Do ten jumping jacks, fifteen jump squats, etc. At A Synergy Affair, you’re out there competing and bonding with your team. Instead of someone telling you to sprint to a point and back. At our events, you’re sprinting with a goal in mind depending on the game. Moreover, your being challenged by your competitor which makes you give all the more effort. Who likes to lose?
Recess all grown up! That’s our tagline. If you’re on the outside looking in, you can see all ages and fitness levels going at it. We have had as young as 16 to as old as 75! Which is awesome! It’s all about working together to accomplish the WIN. The teams are made so that the competition is fair.
What I am most proud of is keeping the events free and accessible to everyone that wants a great workout every other Sunday. The end goal is to open the gateway into a healthier better you!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Big plans coming in the future! As mentioned earlier, competition and teamwork are A Synergy Affairs two main ingredients. Knowing this, I want to open A Synergy Affair events to corporations who are looking to get teamwork and competition going. People are different in the office then they are in the heat of competition. I feel like any business can benefit from having an A Synergy Affair fitness event. We have done one corporate event this year and the feedback was amazing. Some key take away’s where higher morale, increased understanding of one another, amazing memories, etc. So that is one of the biggest things that I am excited for in 2019! Our main events every other Sunday will continue to be free to all of San Diego indefinitely.
