Carly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The products came way before creating the company. Back in 2014, I was in need of finding an effective shampoo + conditioner that was 100% natural. I had realized that most of my “natural” and organic products that I was using were far from natural.
All those intimidating, difficult to pronounce ingredients became my research. I started really investigating the products I had at home, products available at my local health food store and realized how unreliable the word “natural” is on bottles. Due to the lack of regulations on beauty products, I quickly realized that these products available wouldn’t do. It was hard to find a trusted brand that really delivered on high quality, natural shampoo + conditioner that didn’t dry my hair out or create a greasy, tangly mess. So, my mission was cut out for me.
I worked tirelessly with fierce passion, patience and lots of determination to figure out the solution and this was intended just for personal use at that stage. I decided to strip down the standard formulas of these commercial products and start from scratch. Going back to the original purpose of what these products are for, I’d build it back up with only the purest, cleanest ingredients that would nourish the hair and help support them in order to thrive. Through my research, I applied my knowledge of herbalism and became deeply fascinated by Native American herbs, their rituals, and remedies.
After working through countless recipes with my trusty kitchen aid, I created my original products which are now called Warrior Shampoo and Revive Conditioner. It quickly drew attention from family and friends and soon after, in 2016, I opened up shop on my website, underluna.com. Today, the collection has grown to three shampoos and four conditioners, all greatly inspired by our wise ancestors such the Native American rituals, Ayurvedic traditions, Egyptian culture to name a few. You can trust that these products are made with 100% natural ingredients, if you can’t eat it, you won’t find them in these products!
Has it been a smooth road?
A smooth road, no. Developing the products was definitely the most challenging. I had a vision for the products and had to make it come to life without any road map. There was a lot of time spent in that kitchen, at the library, on my computer researching and testing countless formulas. Soon after, I launched Under Luna, I found out I was pregnant with my first child, Luna. She is the biggest inspiration of all, but I’ll be honest, it was all really hard to juggle especially once she was born – all products are handcrafted and take time. I wouldn’t say it was a struggle but definitely quite the balancing act for a first-time mom and first-time business owner all at once!

Under Luna is a line of holistic hair care products, mainly focused on shampoo and conditioner. All products are completely natural. I’m a stickler when it comes to ingredients. If you wouldn’t eat it, I won’t put it in these products. You are not only what you eat but also what you apply to your skin, wash your hair with. It all goes hand in hand. The honesty and transparency I have with these products do set me apart from many other brands even natural ones.
