Meet Carol Bender of Joy Wellness Partners

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carol Bender.

In 2009, Carol graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business and School of Nursing, earning dual Bachelor’s Degrees of Science in Economics and Nursing.

Following the completion of her undergraduate degrees and working as an Emergency Room nurse at the University Medical Center of Princeton, Carol co-founded and served as Medical Director for LifeNet International (LN), a social enterprise that created a sustainable network of healthcare clinics in Burundi, Africa.

Carol went on to complete her Master’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and became board-certified as a Nurse Practitioner (NP), specializing in Adult-Gerontology Acute Care.

Carol experienced first-hand the powerful, life-changing results of regenerative medicine while working in a clinic in Temecula, CA. At the time, she was also practicing as an NP in the emergency departments of several Temecula area hospitals.

Carol was so inspired by her exposure to regenerative medicine, in contrast to the opiate crises and revolving door syndromes that were pervading medical care in the hospital.

In 2016, she founded Joy Wellness Partners, with the vision of making high-quality personalized regenerative medicine available to more people in Southern California.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Overall, the road has been smooth. As I am only four years out of NP school, the ownership of my own practice has come quickly.

The greatest struggle has been the California requirement of having a supervising physician in order to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in an independent clinic.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Joy Wellness Partners story. Tell us more about the business.
Joy Wellness Partners was founded in 2016 by NP Carol Hanselman, following her extensive work in a regenerative medical clinic in Murrieta, CA. Having experienced first-hand the powerful, life-changing results of regenerative medicine, Carol founded JWP with the vision of making high-quality personalized medicine available to more people in the greater San Diego area.

JWP works with patients suffering from a variety of acute injuries, pain, fatigue and those seeking a healthier, more balanced lifestyle. We offer a wide range of services aimed at making our patients feel as youthful, energetic and healthy as possible. We work in partnership with our patients to find personalized treatments that can help them thrive in day-to-day life, without the risks of prescriptions and surgeries.

JWP brings together a team of some of the most experienced and highly trained individuals in the field of health and wellness medicine. Using cutting-edge medical technology to guarantee low-risk and preventative procedures, JWP provides safe and effective solutions for pain relief and other health treatments.

We have learned that a balanced life is a result of optimal physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. At Joy Wellness Partners, you will find a teammate in your search for a healthier and happier life.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Malcolm Gladwell in Outliers says, “It is not the brightest who succeed… Nor is success simply the sum of the decisions and efforts we make on our own behalf. It is, rather, a gift. Outliers are those who have been given opportunities — and who have had the strength and presence of mind to seize them.”

I have seen timing of opportunities play a role in my business and my life in the following ways: the bad luck of a bad manager at a prior job enabled me to see how I didn’t want staff/patients to be treated and guided me to build a strong team of caring staff who treated patients kindly.

That bad luck of the job environment gave me nothing to lose and propelled me to take the leap and try to launch a new business in San Diego.
