Meet Caroline Jordan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caroline Jordan.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Caroline. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was raised in health and fitness. I come from a family of doctors, I’m one of the clan that decided to pursue preventative health care through fitness. My mother was a nurse full time who taught aerobics classes back in the colorful days of leotards and legwarmers. Together we attended pre/postnatal fitness classes, mother-daughter workouts, dance lessons, and fitness conventions. Each workout nurtured my excitement and passion for group fitness.

I was 15 when I told my mother my future was in fitness. I wanted to be a successful group exercise instructor. Any mother would be concerned, as fitness wasn’t an acceptable or profitable career path at the time. Through my strong will and commitment, I continued to pursue my dream with a determination to be successful at what I loved. My mother did what any loving mom would do: support me in my goals and help me every step class of the way.

Years later, I find myself happily working as a full-time fitness professional. I spent ten years running a fitness business in San Francisco before following the sunshine to San Diego. Every year my business evolves more and more. Today I find myself teaching classes on YOUTUBE and training clients all over the world through virtual coaching. It’s amazing to be able to use the internet to touch MORE lives through fitness. Every day I am grateful that I find passion and purpose in my work. My family’s powerful and positive influence has enabled me to create a career from something I love. My mission is to touch the lives of as many people as possible, teaching them to use movement as medicine for MENTAL and physical wellbeing. I believe with the right prescription, exercise can help you live your best life.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are no shortcuts any place worth going. There will always be obstacles and challenges to overcome on your path to pursue your passion and mine has been full of them! One of my biggest challenges was figuring out HOW to move from San Francisco to San Diego. I had built a successful business in San Francisco, but after ten years, I knew I didn’t want to live in San Francisco anymore. I was stressed. I was tired. The foggy city had created a negativity in me I couldn’t seem to shake no matter what I tried. I wasn’t myself and I knew deep down I had to change my environment. But I was scared. I kept giving myself excuses for why I couldn’t leave. I loved my business and I was scared to leave it. I didn’t know how to make the transition – I wanted to move but not ready or courageous enough to take the plunge.

And then one weekend after staying with my family in Davis, I found myself dreading driving home to SF. I was filled with anxiety and started thinking, “Hold up Caroline… this is NOT how it should be. You should not be anxious about returning to where you LIVE. Home should be a place you look forward to. A place that nourishes and restores you. Home should be a place to stay not a place to escape… And life is just TOO DAMN SHORT. If you aren’t happy where you live, it’s up to you to change it.”

It was my ah-ha moment. And in that very same weekend, I found a San Diego apartment on craigslist and put down a security deposit. When I took that leap of faith, EVERYTHING worked out. My online business had just started taking off and as soon as I moved, everything fell into place. Now my work allows me to coach ANYWHERE in the world and had I not moved it never would have shifted in that direction. Moving to SD was a choice that saved my life. I feel like myself again. I sleep well at night. I laugh often.

And most importantly, I LOVE coming home. Yes, Moving to San Diego was hard work. But you have to do hard things to be happy in life. And if you find yourself making excuses for why you aren’t doing things that make you happy, it’s up to you to change that. That was one of my biggest challenges and I’m sure there will be more as I continue to move forward in business. But I say BRING IT ON. You won’t enjoy life if you don’t enjoy your challenges and overcoming obstacles is what brings more meaning and purpose to your life.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Caroline Jordan Fitness teaches people HOW to use movement as medicine for mental and physical wellbeing. I do this three ways:

1. My YouTube channel, which offers over 500 videos of injury friendly fitness content to support you in finding exercise that helps you feel your best INSIDE and out.
2. Virtual Fitness Coaching – I work with clients all over the world to help them achieve their goals and transform their health from the comfort of their own home
3. Consulting/Corporate Wellness/Presenting. I work with leading companies as a speaker, consultant and a coach. I offer custom corporate wellness programs to support employees in beating stress, finding health, and maximizing their productivity.

I am most proud of my success on YouTube. In an industry that seems to always promote the message of “HARDER BETTER FASTER STRONGER,” which often leads people to injury and burnout. I’m here to change that. I want to teach people HOW to exercise in a way that is sustainable and promotes feeling good and maintaining an active lifestyle for the LONG haul.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I did convince SHAQ to take my cycling class at EQUINOX in San Francisco, which was just a huge highlight of my teaching career… Or possibly earning the A.C.E. Fitness “Personal Trainer With Passion” award – what an honor!

But really, I am proud every time I get an email from a client or YouTube subscriber who shares HOW my work has helped them find strength through a physical challenge or a rough day. This is the fuel to my fire: I am motivated to be the kind of coach that has a lasting positive impact on the lives I touch.
