Today we’d like to introduce you to CJ Johnson.
CJ, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After my Aunt gave me a bartending book, I took an interest in spirits and cocktails. I got hired as a barback at a hotel Downtown for about three months and then I asked the Manager to give me a shot at bartending and from there, that’s where my passion for spirits and cocktails grew even more. From there, I bounced around from hotels, restaurants and pubs. I have always wanted to create my own business and since Covid-19 started, I knew it was my time to step out and try to build something for myself and my family.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a learning process on how to find ways to be more efficient and organized and to be present on social media platforms because I used to be very self-conscious of my creations but I’ve learned to step out of my comfort zone and believe in my creative abilities.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Cash Cocktails story. Tell us more about the business.
Our business/company is Cash Cocktails, I have created a mobile bartending business and I specialized in creating quality crafted fresh cocktails for special events. I am known for my quality, thinking outside the box and specialty themed cocktails. Some of the drinks that I’m known for are my Spicy Watermelon and I also did a tribute to Kobe Bryant called the 24K and our fresh White Peach Sangria which can all be seen on my Instagram page @cashcocktails.
I am most proud of my company because it’s built off of my son’s name Cash, it has pushed me to grow, work harder and to never give up. The thing that most sets me apart from others is my quality, everything is fresh ingredients, handmade and no corners are cut. I want to give the full cocktails experience from garnishes to quality, the appearance of the cocktail and most importantly, taste and to give the best customer service possible because it all starts there.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Things change so much it’s hard to say where this industry will be in the next 5-10 years but that’s the fun thing with this type of industry there’s always something to learn and to evolve. With Cash Cocktails, I just want to keep growing, reach as many people as I can, do as many events as I can, grow to other parts of the country just continuing to expand and grow the brand. Maybe work with or collab with other local small businesses and minority-owned businesses.
