Meet Cassidy Eaton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassidy Eaton.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
For as long as I can remember, I have had a passion inside of me for design, fashion, interior decorating and anything creative. I believe it’s one of my spiritual gifts because I’m no left-brainer. Since I was a kid, I’ve wanted to run my own business and make all of my own creative decisions. I would rarely let my mom do my hair or pick out my clothes. The particular rebel in me always wanted to be the boss of those types of things, and not much has changed. Haha

I never aspired to go to a big school and get the whole “college experience.” So, after high school, I enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in LA, and that is where the idea of Rizzy Lou was born. That program really challenged me in the best and worst ways, but my creative energy and work ethic really grew and matured there. I began taking my creative ideas and love for design more seriously, which has slowly evolved into my shop today.

Please tell us about your art.
As of right now, I’m working with textiles and having a really good time making pouches, clutches and coin purses. I will hand-pick all the fabrics, hardware and trims and come up with the designs. Two of my close friends (my seamstresses, a.k.a my secret weapons) will then help me construct it and stitch it all together. They make my concept come to life. I’m currently making smaller size bags with plans of designing some bigger pieces in the near future. I’m stoked about that. Sometimes, I will design a bag and then pull the fabric for it, and other times I stumble upon a delicate fabric and construct it after. For me, that is the freedom I truly enjoy about being my boss. And I believe that is the beauty of design and creativity. You can always plan, but occasionally your most popular and favorite piece was unplanned. It’s awesome.

My intention is to create a quality, functional product that looks cool and travels with people to beautiful places. I use my pouches everywhere I go. So, I hope that these bags get put to good use and last through many adventures. When people shop my bags, I hope they know that a lot of thought and energy went into each one and that it was made with lots of love. I cherish this creative journey I am on. It is so fun bringing my simple ideas to life. It has been very rewarding to look back and see all that I have learned so far, and even more gratifying when people buy my bags. Not only am I contributing to my family, but I am fulfilling my dreams of running a small business. It is so cool. My heart is thankful!

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Don’t be afraid to reach out. People aren’t as scary as they seem! I love when people message me on Instagram or email me. The people who are worth working with will be kind and helpful and nice to talk to.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
People can see my work on Instagram or shop my Etsy website. I also have a few bags in Landers Supply House, in Costa Mesa, CA.
