Today we’d like to introduce you to Cate Batchelor.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started in 2013 after having my second son and decided I wanted a flexible life where I was the one calling the shots.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not. There is no secret manual to creating a lasting brand, or managing a small business. I think the biggest struggle is learning to balance what it takes to run a successful business and actually being able to do what I love which is photography. I actually have to remind myself to do something creative and just for myself in order to keep my passion alive otherwise I’ll get burnt out doing what I love.
Also, learning to balance business with kids has been the biggest struggle. There is always some sort of guilt looming overhead…Am I spending enough time with my kids? Am I giving enough to my clients to keep them happy? I’ve had to create set working hours even though I work from home so I know when to turn off the “boss” mom side and just be mom.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in wedding and portrait photography. I love love and I love that I photograph people in love! I shoot with a fun, romantic, candid style and search for those real moments to capture their unique love story. I want to celebrate an incredible time in my couple’s lives and make their wedding day better because I am there serving them. It’s not about just taking pictures and getting paid for me. I want to create an experience for my clients. Not to just look at some pretty pictures. I want my clients to remember how they felt during their wedding day or family session. When they look at their images they remember a time when they were beyond happy and they are proud to hang those photos in their home to enjoy day after day.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was an only child…so naturally, I was highly imaginative and, well…a weirdo. I loved to draw, paint, color, even take pictures on my super sweet polaroid camera!
