Today we’d like to introduce you to Cedric Brown.
Hi Cedric, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Memphis, Tennessee (Shelby County) and from a young age, music was at the center of my life. I grew up singing in churches and community spaces, and as I became a teenager, I explored different genres of music. But I soon realized that my true foundation was gospel music, and I returned to my roots.
Over the years, I sang with several groups—including Fresh Surrender, The Brown Singers, Dominion & Power—before ultimately creating my own vision under the name Said Music. Along the way, I discovered my gifts for writing and producing, which gave me the ability to create music not only for myself but for others.
Another creative side of me also emerged through art. Inspired by the legendary Bob Ross, I began painting and even launched a business called Sketch and Paint, where I painted homes and murals for a season. While that chapter closed, it showed me that creativity was always going to be part of my purpose.
As I grew older, I rediscovered another passion I had since childhood: helping young people. Even as a kid myself, I felt called to guide and uplift the next generation. That vision has now grown into a program I am developing called SONG – Save Our Next Generation.
SONG is a youth-centered initiative with a mission to provide kids with opportunities, outlets, and skills they may not otherwise have access to. While organizations like the YMCA already exist, my vision is to create a youth center in the North County area—a place where children and teens feel valued, supported, and inspired to become who they were meant to be. Too many young people feel overlooked, unloved, or without purpose. Through SONG, we want to help them discover their worth, talents, and dreams, while showing them the love and encouragement they may not receive elsewhere.
This project is still in its early stages, but the groundwork is laid. The business plan is being processed, resources are being gathered, and I am seeking sponsors, supporters, and partners who believe in the vision.
At the same time, I continue to release new music, videos, and creative projects that amplify a message of hope, health, happiness, and true wealth—the kind that isn’t about money, but about fulfillment, growth, and giving back.
If I never become famous, I am at peace, because my mission is not about recognition. My mission is about impact—to inspire change, to encourage others, and to leave behind a legacy of positivity, strength, and wisdom. Before my journey ends, I want to know that I did my best with what I was given, and that my work touched lives, built bridges, and gave young people the chance to believe in a brighter future.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been smooth. When you are building a vision, there are moments when the dream feels clear, but the resources are not there. Finances are often the fuel, and without them, the journey can feel like you’re standing still with an empty barrel. I’ve had times where I asked God, “Why? Why now? Why not me?” And yet, even in the waiting, I continue to see the vision and the goal before me.
I know the obstacles are real. I know there will be seasons of struggle, but I also know that God has placed something within me that is bigger than myself. That vision keeps me grinding, striving, and pressing harder, even when others may not understand or may only see me as “the same Cedric.” People often look at the outside of a person without ever recognizing the gift or the purpose inside.
I think of it like someone I once saw who had been broken down by drugs. On the outside, they looked like they were at death’s door. But with time, love, and a choice to change, their life was restored. They became healthy again. What people couldn’t see in them at first was the very thing that later blossomed. And that’s the same way I view my journey—though there are scars, though there are struggles, I know there is a greater purpose being revealed.
I’m not chasing fame. I’m not trying to make myself known. My assignment on this earth is to be impactful—even if it’s only local, even if it’s only for one person at a time. My goal is to sit at the table, to speak into the lives of others, and to offer ideas, hope, and encouragement that can shift the direction of our community. If my family, my friends, and even my critics are blessed because of my obedience, then I have done what God asked me to do.
Yes, there are tears. Yes, there are questions. Yes, there are long nights of waiting and wondering. But giving up is not an option. Just like athletes who train for years, who fall, fail, and get back up until they succeed, I know that my victory may take time—but it will come, because I will not quit.
Even now, I see the fruit of seeds I’ve planted years ago when young people come back and say, “I remember when you helped me. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be where I am.” Those testimonies remind me that the work is not in vain.
At the end of my journey, I want to be remembered not for titles, fame, or wealth, but for impact—for touching lives in a way that lasts a lifetime. That is my goal. That is my legacy.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a creative at heart—my mind is always moving, always reaching for new ways to express what God has placed inside of me. Music has been my foundation for as long as I can remember. Over the years, I’ve written countless songs, assisted in producing music with my friend Terrell Hundley of T Hund Music Productions, and built my own vision under SaidMusic1 Productions. Together, we aim to send out encouraging messages through song, with new material constantly flowing.
In addition to music, I am an artist. I specialize in acrylic painting—I love acrylics because of their vibrancy and how quickly they allow me to capture inspiration. I rarely use oils, since they take much longer to complete, but acrylics give me the freedom to create and share more consistently. My goal is to use my artwork as another stream to support my larger mission, including the youth initiative SONG (Save Our Next Generation).
I’m best known for my singing. God has blessed me to travel across the U.S. and beyond, sharing my gift in places such as New York, New Jersey, South Carolina, Memphis, Seattle, Portland, and Florida, with hopes to expand even more internationally in the near future. As I look toward 2026, I am preparing for greater opportunities, grinding on social media, and embracing new technologies like AI so that I won’t be left behind.
What makes me proud is not fame or recognition, but the fact that I never gave up. God continues to give me fresh material—songs, ideas, and visions. My phone, my computer, and my drives are filled with a plethora of music, because every day brings something new.
What sets me apart isn’t that I’m different—it’s that I’m deeply passionate. Whether it’s music, painting, writing, or mentoring youth, I pour my whole heart into it. Hours pass without me noticing, because I lose myself in the joy of creating. That passion fuels me spiritually, mentally, and physically, keeping me motivated to keep going.
Some people call it multitasking, but I call it purpose. I live with the volume turned up, always dreaming, always envisioning, always creating. And at the core of it all is my desire to inspire, to uplift, and to use my gifts to bring hope to others.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is accomplishing a goal I set and seeing it fulfilled with satisfaction and gratitude. Knowing that I put my hands to the work, poured in passion and excellence, and brought the vision to life gives me joy. I’m moved when people respond positively—when they hear, see, or experience the outcome—and I know I gave my all. The result brings me exceedingly great joy, because it reflects not just the work I did, but the heart I put into it.
