Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Bibbs.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Started like most young artists with a gleam in their eyes wishing for success, only to find out later that success comes with a price, like hard work and commitment. Before I found my road to success as an artist, I learned the hard way about responsibility, hard work, and commitment, by working in corporate America for 25 years before I became a successful visual artist.
Corporate American showed me everything I needed to know about marketing, advertising and sales. It prepared and gave me all the skills I needed to be successful as an artist. I learned that art is no different than any other product or commodity in America. The objective is to use your skills to create a product that can sale on the open market for money. The only difference is that you’re selling your individual style to a unique audience.
I have made achievements to become one of the many leading African American artists in the United States.
Please tell us about your art.
I create images of African American life and history. I do this because I lived the life and understand the culture of the African American people’ The message is one of encouragement and pride.
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Dedication to your craft, belief in yourself, and hard work.
To me, success is defined when you can enjoy and accomplish all the things that this country and life has to offer.
