Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelcy Pine.
Chelcy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been writing poetry and short stories since 6 years of age. I attempted to study Photojournalism in college but my heart chose Poetry and at age 18, I came up with an idea to do custom poetry and art in order to showcase the human experience and create a space to express the love we have for each other but sometimes struggle to show. Ten years later, (last year) I gave birth to Poetic Pulse to carry out this Mission.
Has it been a smooth road?
Sometimes it is smooth like butter, other times we want to pull our hair out. The thing about being skilled as a writer or an artist is that that is usually your one skill and you are lacking in other departments— such as the actual production of the product. In our case, the cards. However, we are grateful that the genius behind this project leaves us constantly inspired and driven and the customers help us to work through artist blocks with their ideas and requests. The rest seems to fall in to place so long as we keep the main goal in mind.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Poetic Pulse story. Tell us more about the business.
Poetic Pulse is a custom card company at the crossroads of poetry and art. How it works: you order a card for your loved one (birthday, wedding, anniversary, etc) and I custom write the words you want to express but maybe feel challenged to do so. Based off of what I write, my artist and best friend Wes Wigman draws an image to pair with the words. The idea is that you give someone something not only special and expressive but something they can hang up like artwork and be reminded constantly of your love and affections.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
My vision for Poetic Pulse has always been to become a collective of 10 local artists and 10 local writers. Eventually, I want to incorporate photography, videography, and spoken word. This way, customers could see a portfolio from all of the unique designers and poets and chose from an artist and a writer to pair for the perfect card. I believe with all of my heart in supporting local artists and believe we can make more magic together as a community.
