Meet Cheyenne Rubens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheyenne Rubens.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m proud to say I’m a born and raised San Diego native. I attended Longfellow Spanish Immersion School all throughout elementary and middle school, then moved on to Mission Bay High School and graduated in 2014. Growing up by the beach, I became obsessed with the ocean, to say the least. I come from a family of surfers so naturally, I started surfing at around three years old and would pretty much spend every waking moment at the beach. Spending that much time in the water really makes you appreciate mother nature and all that she has to offer, especially her healing properties. Ultimately, I think that’s what has to lead me to my passion, holistic nutrition/culinary arts. I have such love & respect for food, I hope to use it as a tool to change peoples lives!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not really, one of the biggest struggles for me has definitely been taking the necessary leap towards the unknown. It’s difficult, especially when often time society doesn’t accept or understand someone taking a different career path that isn’t necessarily “conventional.” I currently work at a Wellness Spa in Little Italy part time and Model part-time as well as go to school. Therefore, finding balance can sometimes be a struggle, to say the least, but theirs so much beauty in it! I often times have to wake up at 6 am going to a modeling gig (typically in OC or LA) then drive back down to get to my other job mid-morning and somehow find time to do schoolwork. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Currently, I’ve been catering to small intimate events, which consist of elaborate grazing boards of all types. I will also be cooking at a few plant-based yoga retreats this year that I’m really looking forward to. My plan is to take it larger scale when I’m done with school and can pursue it full time, I’ll be not only catering events but also be doing one-on-ones with clients to teach them how to cook properly for them and their families.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’ve been so fortunate to have very supportive people in my life. Not only do I have an amazing family that supports me in whatever I do but I have an amazing boyfriend who pushes me to follow my dreams, no matter what they are. As well as the best group of friends! Having a good support system is crucial in being successful, especially as a small business owner. I’d say my absolute biggest supporter is my mom, it doesn’t matter what I do she’s always so thrilled for me and can’t wait to hear about my next venture. I don’t know what I’d do without her endless stoke.
