Meet Chrch St.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chrch St.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My name is Aram, but I go by “Chrch” or “Chrch St.” My artist name came from paying homage to the street I grew up on in Lemon Grove. I started making music when I was 12. My best friends and I started this band called “Zealous.” I played mostly everything (keys, bass, drums. etc.) but my love was guitar! We weren’t this crazy good band, but at the time, we felt like rockstars!

Fast-Forward to High School, I started making beats for my friends who rapped. I remember always bugging “Red,” my brother, to come over to his house and use his computer to make beats. It was hanging out with them all the time, where I finally gained enough confidence to do it myself. At that time, I went under the alias of “Osomara.” It wasn’t until I went to college, where I find who I wanted to be as an artist. When I went to college, I started dabbling with Indie/Alternative music and that rocker foo lifestyle lol. Truly, I always wanted to make rock/alternative music, but I was afraid of what people would of thought about it. It wasn’t until I made a song called “From The Jump,” where I was like, “Yeah, I can do this shit.”

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’d say the biggest struggle with my music journey is dealing with self-doubt. It’s crazy how you really are your biggest critique. Sometimes you’ll make a song that you think is the craziest thing at that moment, but then come back to it the next day and your just like, “This is complete shit!” Another obstacle I had to deal with, like many other people, is COVID-19. I had this plan at the end of 2019 to release my debut EP in March 2020 and perform at as many shows as I can wherever. But you know how that went. There is definitely beauty in all this; I have had time to develop my craft as an artist and also work on my mental health by enjoying this slow lifestyle at the moment. It’s definitely hard for everybody right now, but we have to keep pushing and never give up!

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
Currently, I just released my first self-produced EP on September 11th, entitled “Omnipotent.” I named it that because I’m blessed to have the ability (the unlimited power) to make anything from a rap song to a rock song. This project is a mixture of different genres, all put together. There is literally a song for everybody on the is EP. So do me a favor and check it out. 🙂 That is probably the most important project I’ve done; it has developed me to be the artist I am today, as far as lyricism and production. I think what separates me from some people is that I do it all. I produce, write, mix, and master my songs. About 98% of the songs I have done have been produced by me. I’m very proud of that! I mostly play guitar, bass, and some keys, but I’m working on becoming a better pianist at the moment.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I think the biggest re-do for me is not going to college straight out of high school. Don’t get me wrong, college is extremely important and is necessary for most people’s career. Just for me personally, I’ve always wanted to pursue music and those four years I spent my time and energy could have been dedicated to my music. I say if you’re really about this music and you’re in high school, Chase your dreams! College will always be there! DO NOT BE AFRAID TO JUMP!
