Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Nichols.
Hi Chris, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My parents and I moved to Honolulu from San Diego when I was a toddler, so we had to build a new community from scratch and adjust to a unique setting. Growing up in Hawaii, I longed for a fast-paced environment with lots of opportunities, which is what I’ve found in California. But I’ll always remain grateful for the lifelong values the Hawaiian culture instilled in me, such as strength, loyalty, and humility.
For college, I moved to Northern California, where I attended Santa Clara University, competed as a Div. 1 NCAA athlete, and studied business. The culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley fascinated me. Upon graduating, I experimented with a few different career paths but eventually circled back to the technology industry in San Francisco. I worked in business roles at various software companies, from startups to public companies. Working alongside ambitious founders and leaders taught me business strategies and tactics in varying circumstances.
When I moved to San Diego in 2020, I was inspired by the number of people who had found ways to work for themselves and pursue their passions. For a while, I envisioned starting a podcast that would allow me to learn from fascinating people and share their stories to help inspire others on their journeys. This dream became a reality in 2023 when I launched The Nichols&Dimez Show, a weekly podcast that features entrepreneurs, many of whom are local to San Diego. My goal is to make the world as small as possible by connecting with others and bringing people together through shared experiences.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been dynamic. Each move and career shift I’ve made has brought its share of risk, anxiety, and excitement. I have struggled in the past with linking my identity to my work, which can have a negative impact on mental health. I want a multifaceted life that allows me to continue exploring and learning, where I am not defined by any one thing that I do. Constantly seeking a healthy, balanced lifestyle and surrounding myself with a high-quality support system is how I confront these challenges. Currently, I am juggling a full-time job while also doing all production for my podcast, which can be overwhelming. Ideally, I will find ways to outsource certain tasks so I can focus even more on the people.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Resilience. There are some days when you feel completely hopeless and discouraged, but everything can turn around in a day if you hold it together and keep moving forward. It’s also key to recognize and honor your non-negotiables. Focusing on gratitude and continuously bettering my fitness and health are fundamental for me to remain clear-headed and steady. Surrounding myself with high-achieving, positive people is another big source of energy, which is why this podcast has been such a source of inspiration to me.
