Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Parck and Chad Yarvitz.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Chris and Chad. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Chad and I met working at a trade show in 2015 working as Master Trainers for a company called Matrix which manufactures and sells fitness equipment. After a few (possibly more) whiskeys together, we decided to see what we could put together for a cycling studio.
Since Matrix manufactured our cycling bikes, finding equipment was the least of our challenges. Chad already had a boutique group exercise studio called Xplicit Fitness which had a space on the upstairs floor that was ideal for a cycling studio.
What we envisioned was a premier cycling studio unlike any that were currently found in the San Diego area. A studio that was results based, offered accountability and had a tight community that welcomed all new riders and fitness enthusiasts.
We took a chance on a ghost partnership to see if we could make the idea of Implicit Cycling work. After a year of trial and error and putting the right systems into place we officially partnered up and formed Implicit Cycling, LLC in April of 2017.
Today Implicit has 7 coaches teaching classes 7 days a week on 13 bikes with over 100 regular members getting more fit by the day. Implicit often partners with Xplicit Fitness for fitness challenges and outings to offer the complete results based fitness package.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Competition – San Diego is a fitness hot -pot. Opening a fitness studio here is like opening a restaurant in Chicago or New York. You have to bring your “A” game, and then some, if you want to stand out. Every month you hear about a new boutique fitness studio opening as well as another one closing. We had to carve out our niche in the San Diego fitness market and we are still learning and evolving to this day.
Growing pains – We experienced the typical new business growing pains, such as being challenged to find the right instructors that wanted to teach in a way that complimented our equipment and our vision. Budgeting a brand a new business is never a picnic. When you open a new business; you have the estimate of what it will everything will cost and then there is what it actually costs. Always, always double it.
Totally new to running cycling studio/small business – For me, I had never owned a business before and had no idea how much work and time were involved. For Chad, he already owned a successful business but had minimal exposure to indoor cycling. He was putting a lot of faith in me to figure it out while being able to lean on him for guidance from what he learned owning Xplicit. The bottom line is, we were both relying heavily on each other to step up to the plate. That was our leap of faith.
Please tell us about Implicit Cycling.
Implicit is a results-based indoor cycling studio where our members are more than just a number. We use state-of-the-art equipment to deliver a challenging workout to all of our members. The best part is, we are able to tailor every class to the individual and create a personal training experience in a group atmosphere.
Our coaches get to know every one of our members, which gives Implicit an added level of accountability, coupled with a family atmosphere. We want to see our members succeed and hit their fitness goals because their win is our triumph.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Chad – Setting up a fake mannequin in my sister’s room to look like a real person wearing a hat to scare the life out of her. It was amazing.
Chris – Playing army down by and in the river near our house in the summertime. We lived in the Chicago suburbs and it was hot so most of the time we ended up in the river.
Little did we know that the sewage drains emptied into this river so we would come home smelling worse than a Yeti that got sprayed by a skunk. My mother was always furious.
