Today we’d like to introduce you to Corey Hegel.
Corey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am an Ocean Ambassador for a company called Shore Buddies in San Diego. Our Mission is to save Marine Life and keep plastics out of the Oceans. Shore Buddies makes stuffed animals from recycled plastic bottles. $1 from every product purchase goes to help preserve our Oceans.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I fell in love with the ocean when I was a Junior Lifeguard in Laguna Beach. There is no better job than being able to help the Environment while spending time at the beach!
Shore Buddies – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I believe creating characters out of the stuffed animals, each with their own story is a great way to educate young people on the damage that human beings are doing to our Oceans and Marine life.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Shore Buddies do cleanups throughout the year at different beaches. The most recent beach cleanup I participated in was Huntington Beach. We proudly wear our Ocean Ambassador pins and do our part to help spread the word that we must act now before it is too late.
