Meet Corrie Anderson of Mindful Movement & Manual Therapy in Del Mar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Corrie Anderson.

Corrie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always been in the health and fitness industry-officially half of my life, starting with teaching fitness at 18, progressing to owning a training and recovery center in Tahoe where I taught small groups movement, cycle classes, boot camps, Pilates, and personal training. I saw some of the hands on practitioners doing things I wanted to be able to do with my clients to further their progress. I wanted more tools in my toolbox! I am obsessed with anatomy and the physiology of the body, so I naturally am drawn to continuing my education on a regular basis! It began with 2800 hours at International Pacific School of Bodywork (IPSB), where I officially became a licensed hands on practitioner, getting my certification and license to practice these hands on interventions. I followed it up with certifications in Rolfing, Orthopedic Massage, Active Release Technique, MELT Method and MELT NeuroStrength, Kinesio Tapingand Medi-Cupping. My passion for pain free movement and love of biomechanics gives me a special edge when it comes to helping my clients achieve their goals, and learn to live pain free. I’ve been super lucky in getting to work with a vast population of people of all ages, athletic ability, and different goals. I have clients as young as infants, up to 85 right now, but that is not a limit! I have gotten to work with some really exciting athletes, travel with clients to XGames, Dew Tour and even the Olympics. I really like helping people, and I really like seeing them progress and do things they’ve not been able to do before, or for a long time without pain.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely not easy, I moved to San Diego and put myself through school as a single mom. There were many challenges. Starting a practice in a new place is never easy, but I will say I was very lucky in working with some great Doctors and Chiropractors who helped me build my practice to where it is today. It’s also hard sometimes to retain clients-they get better pretty quick (a good problem)!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Mindful Movement & Manual Therapy – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I love that I’ve never had to do any advertising. I’ve been able to grow my practice strictly through referrals and word of mouth.

I specialize in sports therapy, my average client comes to me because they have some sort of pain in the body (myo-skeletal) and traditional therapies have not helped (IE chiropractic, orthopedic, physical therapy, etc). Through my assessment I help you determine the best treatment program, typically a combination of movement and hands on therapy (could include cupping, deep tissue work, fascial work, etc). The average client sees me anywhere from 3-twice a week sessions. Some people come when they need it and have hurt themselves, and others choose to come as a preventative measure so they don’t injure themselves and can continue to do what they love without pain or overuse injuries. This of course is my recommendation-weekly or biweekly appointments.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Super excited about the upcoming winter Olympics, I will be there working with some athletes and enjoying the experience.
