Meet Creature Culture

Today we’d like to introduce you to Creature Culture.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Creature Culture was founded by guitarist Carley Fischer and bassist Ciera Baker. Together we wrote and self-produced a four-song EP, titled the FREAKS! EP. The band did not have a set drummer at the time, so we have a few different drummers playing on the tracks. While in the process of finalizing and releasing the EP, we met Kaitlyn Alaire (guitarist) and Lucas Clayton (drummer), who joined the band shortly thereafter and began playing shows with us.

Please tell us about your art.
We’re all about live music and the energy it brings. There’s no better feeling than creating something that didn’t exist before and putting it out into the universe. We want to inspire others to pick up an instrument and start a band, especially young women, who are often marginalized in the music scene. It always warms my heart when girls come up to us after watching our set and tell us “I’ve always wanted to start a band, but never felt like I could do it, but after watching you play, I’m inspired to try.”

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Find a community of people with similar interests to you, and get involved! Talk about your art, talk about other peoples art, what it means to you, how it feels to create it, what you’re proud of, and what you want to improve on. When you’re passionate about what you do, it will resonate with people and the community will embrace you. Let others inspire you! When you water those seeds, you will be amazed at how your creations blossom.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
The best way to support us is to come to a show! We play in San Diego all the time, lots of house shows, and venues such as the Che Cafe and SOMA. Our shows are always posted on our Instagram page @creaturecultvre. You can also listen to our music on any streaming platform such as Spotify, Apple Music, or purchase it on iTunes.
