Meet Creston Bailey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Creston Bailey.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began taking photos when I was an active duty Marine as a means of documenting my travels. I took photos in Iraq, throughout Europe, and in the far east. This was long before I knew anything about how to photograph something beyond ‘point and click’. In the early 2000s, just prior to a business trip to Hawaii, I purchased my first DSLR after having seen some photos a fellow Marine had taken during a previous trip there. I still didn’t have the first clue about what I was doing beyond the automatic settings in my camera. Wanting to be able to take more artistic landscape photos, I began to teach myself, by reading magazines, books, and surfing the various photographic websites I could find. Years later, on a whim, I found a meetup group that focused on portrait studio photography and attended one of their functions. After that first even, I became hooked with portraiture photography. Since that first portrait experience, I have continued to teach myself the art of portraiture and earned an Associates Degree in Digital Photography. I currently work with several models regularly in the greater San Diego area, helping them develop their portfolios and social media platforms, as well as providing standard portrait photo sessions such as senior portraits and gift packages to customers.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Learning photography certainly hasn’t been an easy experience. Much of my early attempts were trial and error because I was trying to teach myself. The good thing about photography, is most photographers are always willing to help out rookies. The number of resources online today via forums, social media, and YouTube can be an incredible resource. Having decided that photography is something I wanted to seriously pursue as a post-military career option, I decided I needed to do more than just read about photography. I enrolled in and completed an Associate’s Degree program at the Art Institute of California, San Diego. After completing that program of study I wanted to continue my education and enrolled in the Bachelor’s program. However, just seven classes from completion, the campus closed, leaving my goal of finishing my BA in Digital Photography unfulfilled. It may be something I eventually complete, but for now, I am enjoying not having to commit as much time to school work, and using that time to book photo shoots with customers.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with C Bailey Studios – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
CBaileyStudios was originally conceived as a means to help me pay for my photography passion. I wanted my hobby to eventually be able to pay for itself. The primary focus of my business is to provide portrait photography services to a wide client base. My primary customers have been business professionals needing ‘corporate headshots’ to Senior Portraits. I also do some commercial work with local clothing designers, as well as portfolio material for models to use in building their own brand and look. While I always am on the lookout for an opportunity to work on a large corporate marketing campaign or with a well-established talent, I am most proud of the work I have done with local models and customers. I enjoy working with people who may not be used to having their photo taken. I love when I provide my customers with a final product and they are just so shocked and happy with the results. It is like Christmas for me.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
CBaileyStudios is currently booking customers and actively searching for opportunities to partner with local business to help market their products or services by providing high-end photographic services and products. I am also attempting to grown my social media presence to reach a larger customer base, and expand my business.
