Today we’d like to introduce you to Crissy Milroy.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Crissy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The story of Crissy Milroy, Photographer, began when I was pregnant with my first child. I had resigned as a high school physical education teacher and cheer coach to stay home and take care of my family. Low and behold I wanted to “work”. That is when my cousin and I decided we needed to work together. We loved being a part of each other’s lives and as a bonus, we worked very well together. It was an easy decision for us to start a photography business together but eventually became too difficult to keep it together. With the demands of a growing business and our growing families something had to give, and that was the end of our partnership. However, I wasn’t ready to give up photography altogether. I was hooked and liked that it would keep me busy enough to fill in gaps of time but allowed plenty of time to keep my priorities of family first. After about two years of shooting my close friends and acquaintances, I was ready to establish my own business and that is when Life.Love.Cheers was born.
I appreciate the creative outlet photography is for me. I like how a camera feels in my hands. I love capturing people and feel honored when I am given the chance to capture a moment that commemorates a milestone. On top of that, I really like having an identity outside of being a wife and mother. Having a purpose outside of the home feels good!
In addition to all my feel goods about photography, I believe my passion stems from the fact that my dad was a photographer. Although he was behind the camera shooting race cars and jet planes and I prefer people, I imagine his passion and love was passed down to me just as his Nikon F1 was passed on to me. I like to think that photography is something special between us. It is something that only I share with him. It is a special bond that keeps us connected while we are separated by heaven and Earth.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
A smooth road would have been amazing! But, that has never been my style – ha ha. An obvious challenge that is most likely the most common answer is the need of more hours in a day. Of course, more time would be amazing! However, I do not consider that my biggest challenge. That would belong to the feeling of doubt. Obstacles that have made this journey difficult gave me doubt that this path is indeed “the one” I should travel. Thoughts such as “Am I a good enough photographer to do this job?” Or “Why do I not have more work?” These sort of thoughts continue to haunt me. But, I love being behind the camera and will continue to develop my skills to deliver great photos worthy of print to my clients. I feel a strong need to continue this journey and am excited to grow my business and improve my craft.
Life.Love.Cheers – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company is called Life.Love.Cheers Photography. I am a lifestyle photographer capturing my clients’ moments in “Life”, the one(s) they “Love” and those they “Cheer” on. I love love and always feel honored to be a part of someone’s history. Any milestone or event deserves to be documented and celebrated. Whether it is a birthday, graduation, the first or third pregnancy, a couple’s engagement or wedding I am always thrilled to be a part of the event!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I like to keep the definition of success simple. Success means happiness. If you are happy with what you are doing in your personal and professional life, I would consider that a success. One of my all-time favorite college professors said, “If you are happy doing what you do, the money will follow”.
