Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Heath.
Hi Crystal, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My path to launching Pelvic Health by Crystal has been shaped by a combination of personal passion, mentorship, and some truly formative experiences along the way. Early on in my education, I knew I was drawn to healthcare but hadn’t yet found my exact path. A pivotal moment came when I completed an internship in Ireland with a group of osteopaths. That experience opened my eyes to a more holistic, hands-on approach to care — one that focuses on treating the root cause of dysfunction rather than simply addressing symptoms. It deepened my appreciation for how interconnected the body is, and how powerful manual therapy and mindful movement can be when combined with thoughtful, patient-centered care.
Not long after, I was introduced to an incredible mentor who specialized in pelvic health — and that changed everything. Working with her was my first real exposure to this field, and I was immediately drawn to it. I saw how profoundly pelvic floor therapy affects people’s lives, yet how often it goes unrecognized. That experience inspired me to pursue a doctorate of physical therapy at Northwestern University with my focus to be on pelvic health and completed continued education at Herman & Wallace while in the program. I returned to work with her again during a clinical internship, which became the foundation of how I practice today. I also received further mentorship from another therapist specializing in pregnancy and postpartum care, gaining valuable experience with this population early on in my career. Between these two mentorships, I developed a strong clinical foundation and confidence in treating women across the lifespan — from adolescence through postmenopause — whether they have had children or not.
Since becoming a PT, I’ve had the privilege of working for many amazing therapists and providers. I learned so much from those collaborative environments and deeply value the knowledge shared and the work we accomplished together. But over time, I felt a strong pull to create something that was fully mine — a space that truly embodies my values, my voice, and my whole-person approach to care.
That’s how Pelvic Health by Crystal was born — a special, intentional healing space where people never feel like a number but genuinely supported, informed, and empowered in their bodies. My practice is grounded in personalized, one-on-one care that blends manual therapy, movement (including Pilates when it fits naturally), and education — all rooted in listening deeply and treating the whole person, especially the nervous system. Whether someone is navigating pregnancy symptoms and birth preparation, recovering postpartum, managing chronic pelvic pain, bladder or bowel issues, sexual dysfunction, or prolapse — or simply looking to reconnect with their body — the care is always personalized and grounded in both clinical expertise and genuine compassion.
I’m also passionate about collaboration and community. I work closely alongside another therapist I deeply respect, and together we continually grow our knowledge to offer the best care possible. Beyond that, I’ve built strong partnerships with trusted providers like lactation consultants, doulas, occupational therapists, and midwives. These collaborations allow me to support clients in comprehensive, meaningful ways that go beyond symptoms to foster resilience, confidence, and connection.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to be offering more educational events, workshops and webinars. Another goal for this space is to create a wellness collective where trusted providers can also share their healing gifts. This is more than a just practice or a brand — it’s a nurturing space dedicated to authentic healing, growth, and community.
This work is a true privilege. Every person who walks through my door reminds me why I chose this path — and why I’m so grateful to do what I love every day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road — and honestly, I don’t think it’s supposed to be. Starting and growing something on your own comes with a lot of unknowns, especially in a field like pelvic health that still feels under-recognized and sometimes misunderstood. One of the biggest challenges has been trusting myself enough to step away from more traditional clinic settings and create something that felt aligned with the kind of care I want to offer — slower, more intentional, more connected.
There were also the typical small business struggles: navigating logistics, learning how to wear all the hats, and figuring out how to balance my clinical work with the behind-the-scenes demands of running a practice. And to be totally honest, the pressure to constantly market yourself has never really felt like a natural for me. I’ve had to remind myself that it’s okay to grow more quietly, through real relationships and meaningful care.
But through it all, every challenge has clarified why I’m doing this. The moments of uncertainty have been just as formative as the wins, and I’ve been lucky to have support from colleagues, mentors, and clients who believe in this work and help keep me grounded.
As you know, we’re big fans of Pelvic Health by Crystal. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Pelvic Health by Crystal is a physical therapy and wellness practice dedicated to supporting women through all stages of life — from adolescence to postmenopause. I offer one-on-one care that blends manual therapy, movement (including Pilates), education, and nervous system regulation to address everything from pelvic pain, incontinence, prolapse, and scar tissue recovery to birth prep, postpartum healing, and general core and pelvic floor function.
Pelvic floor physical therapy focuses on the group of muscles at the base of your pelvis that play a vital role in your everyday function. These muscles help open and close your holes, support your pelvic organs (like your bladder, uterus, and rectum), contribute to sexual function, and help stabilize your pelvis and lower back. When these muscles are not working well — whether they’re weak, tight, uncoordinated, or affected by injury, pregnancy, birth, or life stress — they can lead to issues like leaking, pain, heaviness, and more. Pelvic floor PT addresses these concerns with a combination of hands-on care, personalized exercises, breathing strategies, education, and support.
What sets this space apart is the intention behind it. I wanted to create something that doesn’t feel like a clinic but more like a healing sanctuary where people feel safe, heard, and supported. Every treatment is personalized and rooted in a deep respect for what each person is navigating in their body.
I also collaborate closely with other incredible providers like lactation consultants, doulas, midwives, occupational therapists, and bodyworkers. I offer both in-clinic and in-home session, Pilates-based movement session, mommy & me pilates, various workshops, and educational events. This allows me to support clients in a more integrative and meaningful way. Helping them reconnect with their bodies, build confidence, and heal from the inside out.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
See question above… Sherine Aubert was my first mentor (still is) that introduced me to pelvic floor physical therapy. She has guided me through the complexities of pelvic health, mostly focused on treated pelvic pain especially through the nervous system. Whitney Sippl was my mentor early in my career (still is) and is the guru for pregnancy and postpartum pelvic floor physical therapy. I could not have done it without them! I still turn to them today.
