Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Millward.
Dan Millward is an independent singer / songwriter from New Zealand. He is currently based in San Diego, California where he is continuing to write and release music in addition to doing live shows. As a musician, composer and lyricist, music has been part of Dan’s life since he was young. His unique sound as a pop artist has been influenced by his diverse musical background. This background includes acoustic pop, r&b, and folk. Dan believes that “music is one of the best mediums through which we can express ourselves, heal our heart, and lift our spirits.”
I grew up doing music in church, which gave me the opportunity to grow as a musician in a great environment! I started playing drum in the church band at 11 years old. As a teenager I picked up the guitar and fell in-love with it. It became my outlet. I could express myself through song-writing and would often jam into early hours of the morning.
After writing songs for many years I finally decided to start sharing them with the world. My goal is to create genuine-sounding, authentic music that stirs up emotions within people to love harder and live meaningful lives.
Please tell us about your art.
As a composer and singer-songwriter I try to create music that comes from a genuine heart-felt place as I believe that is the music that hits us the hardest. I want to make music that inspires people to chase and fight for the kind of love and life they deserve. What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I believe it can be difficult for people to see how much effort was put into the creative process and to understand the value and worth of artwork. In the case of the music industry, I think this is primarily due to the fact that music can be accessed for free so easily. As artists, it is important to remember how much value to bring to society through our work. We have the ability to inspire and impact people in an emotional and spiritual way.
