Meet Dan Sullivan of Peak Performance Pros

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Sullivan.

Dan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up, I was passionate about music and athletics. I played the violin and saxophone, as well as ice hockey -and had great teachers, coaches, and mentors all my life. While playing ice hockey, I started to develop an interest in diet, supplementation, mindset, and really anything that would increase my athletic performance and help me to get to the next level. I continued to play at higher levels and ended up playing college hockey for the University of Maine. My lifelong dream was to play in the NHL, but during college, the interest I had had in health and optimal performance turned into a passion, and I decided to change career paths and pursue medicine and to help others achieve optimal health. I became a health coach and worked in functional medicine after my undergraduate degree, but soon realized that I wanted more of an education to really understand the nuances of health. I then decided to pursue a doctorate in naturopathic medicine at Bastyr University in San Diego, which aligned perfectly with my philosophy of prevention and natural medicine. Recently I’ve decided to start Peak Performance Pros, a business which utilizes a team of a Naturopathic Doctor, Registered Dietician, and Health Coach. We work with high performers, whether they be athletes, business people, or entrepreneurs, and use outcome-based practices to optimize their health and allow them to operate at their full potential.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My road has definitely had its bumps, although not nearly the amount that others have had I’m sure. Getting cut from many hockey teams growing up was always difficult, and even the years right before I ended up playing division one college hockey. Playing any sport requires confidence and the right mid-set. These two things can be extremely difficult to muster, especially after being cut from a team you thought you should’ve made. However, these difficulties required me to strengthen my own will and resolve to get to the next level. I became much more open-minded, I became a harder worker, and I dissolved more of my ego in this process. All of these have been advantages to me as I played in college, and especially now as I advance through medical school, and start another business.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Peak Performance Pros – what should we know?
