Meet Daniel Morawski of Morawski.Art.Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Morawski.

Daniel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Art has always been a part of my life but growing up I had certain people I looked up to telling me that I wasn’t a “real” artist and that I shouldn’t pursue something like that.. crushed, I understood and believed them. Any self-doubt I had was solidified. I stopped creating

The end of 2014, I just came off some of the most difficult years I had ever had. The end of a career due to an injury. An opportunity to finally get to know my older brother that left me feeling unwanted and hurt. The end of a 4-year relationship that somehow made me feel the loneliest I had ever been. Only to find myself truly alone in a city I knew no one in. I didn’t even know who I was.

However, within the darkness, there was a spark of light. I rediscovered my love for creating. Confidence shattered, exhausted, unwanted, and brush in hand I took it out on a canvas and created an oil painting that would end up being in my first piece ever sold in my very first show. I had always needed a creative outlet to survive. When I was younger, it was drawing, skateboarding, making clay animations on VHS… Anything I could get my hands on that saved me through some of life’s most difficult moments. It took hitting some major lows for me to finally realize it was also my true passion and what I should have been pursuing all along.

Here I am, 2019. I have been in San Diego for five years now. Using every resource available to study and practice all mediums of art. I now have two business wall spaces dedicated to my artwork. I have a commission list that is just starting to build. Have been invited to galleries and art shows throughout SD. Have connected with people through my artwork in ways I never thought possible. Shared stories. Struggles, successes, and passions.

Even becoming an art teacher for a while, sharing my experience with kids and adults, helping them to tackle obstacles in art and their own lives. Teaching them to not listen to that negative voice that tells them “They aren’t good enough.” Relentless in its pursuit to break us down, I feel self-worth is a major issue in our society. It damn near broke me down many times. Wasn’t until I rediscovered art that I found a way out. That’s where my passion and goals lie. I love to create. I love to share. I love to connect.

Every piece I do is tapping into my own struggles and emotions, and when I get to share that with others and help them overcome some of their own personal struggles, it makes every dark time. Every struggle, every hour of dedication, every lonely night in front of the canvas. ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT. All of it comes full circle, and I wouldn’t change any of it. Turning a negative into a positive. This is why I am in love with the process.

Has it been a smooth road?
Investing in and allowing myself to pursue art has by far has been the best decision I ever made. It hasn’t been an easy path and by no means is it over. The biggest struggle was learning how to tap into what I had bottled up my entire life and to use it creatively. The negative anger that I held onto for so long. Finally had a way to let it go.

Art is also extremely time intensive and although I enjoy every moment of it as the process unfolds and the image comes to life. It also means when a lot of people are going out. You are home behind the canvas. It means juggling multiple jobs and working 40+ hours a week to cover the bills and then also making time for studying and creating. It means not being afraid to be told your best work isn’t good enough. Try again.

There is no ABC on how to become a professional artist. There is no standard road or path to aim at. That is where art is very interesting and why I also love it. This community thrives by sharing and helping one another. Some of the best resources I have found have been art lessons and tutorials created by professionals in the industry. Not schools, but from people actually living that industry in their everyday life and succeeding at it. Very lucky to be pursuing art in the information age where I can learn lessons from masters all over the world.

So now that I have my direction further dialed and have explored all mediums of art. I cannot be more excited for what the future holds as I prepare to shift into another gear and hit art even harder. If it was easy, it wouldn’t be worth doing.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Morawski.Art.Design – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Morawski.Art.Design is all about me sharing my passion with others from traditional to digital. I bring people ideas and stories to life. From tradition Oil paintings of the Millenium Falcon on a piece of aircraft aluminum to charcoal portraits of loved ones that have passed away. There’s nothing I can’t create in the traditional arts. I will always be studying and learning and getting better with each piece I do. I will always create traditionally.

Digital art is the direction I am taking my career. Right now, I have my sights set on Sony here in San Diego with the intent of becoming a concept artist for them. Further exploring and challenging myself I have learned how much I love creating characters and the environments they exist in. I picked up my first concept artist book a few years ago randomly at a book store in Santa Cruz “The Art of John Harris – Beyond the Horizon” The way he depicted such a sense of depth and these massive celestial bodies floating ever so close to each other just blew me away. I had never seen art like that before. I was hooked.

I am most proud of what small successes that I have had as an artist have always been shared with others. My first solo art show, I was able to turn it into a fundraiser for the non-profit organization Skateistan. 100% of my earnings from that show were donated and used to help kids around the world get off the streets and learn about the same creative outlets that were so crucial in my own life. That I have been able to share my knowledge and findings with others in the community in turn strengthening and feeding the art community of San Diego. I am a very passionate person, and I feel that sets me apart.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
I love San Diego’s weather and active lifestyle community. There is such a contrasting yet complimentary vibe with the different areas spread out all over the county. The fact that I have lived here for five years and feel there is still so much to explore and see is probably my favorite thing.

With as much time I spend behind the canvas when I get a chance to go out it is important to me to be by the beach or be doing something active. From rock climbing to surfing to hiking. The water and sun bring so much comfort and energy to me. They absolutely help keep me in a balance when I’ve been inside too long — also the food. If there is anything, I almost love as much as art… it’s food. San Diego has it all, and I want to try it all.

Hmm, well I do miss the beautiful redwood trees and oak forests of central to northern California, but I’d have to say the traffic and the drivers here are maybe what I like least haha. Who am I kidding though? That exists in any city.
