Meet Daniel Sanchez of Drshue

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Sanchez.

Daniel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Hello, my name is Daniel Sanchez. I am 23 years old and I started with photography shortly after I graduated high school in 2014. I was introduced to photography by my older brother that was shooting 35mm film alongside digital. It always intrigued me on how his photos came out, they said something to me. I didn’t have money to buy a digital camera so I would always ask him to let me borrow his camera.

On occasion, I would take his camera out and just go shoot. He told me the basics of photography. From then on, I have been self-taught. As I started shooting more often, my passion for photography grew. I started with landscape photography and slowly moved towards street/portraiture. I shoot everything and everything I feel. I am open-minded and don’t just focus on one type of photography which I feel people nowadays are doing. I would rather be versatile than only shoot one type of photos. I currently shoot both digital and 35mm film. I have been shooting more film than ever though.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road in as a self-taught photographer. it was hard in the beginning. I wouldn’t know what I was doing as I went out to shoot with people and I wasn’t getting the results I hoped for. Slowly but surely, I started to getting the hang of it.

There are always bumps in the roads for photographers. I feel like you aren’t inspired from time to time and its okay. You just need time to sit down and think about ideas and not stress out about not having any creative ideas. It happens to all of us. What’s important is what you do to get around it and strive to overcome any obstacle in life.

Tell us more about your work.
I specialize in photography, videography, and video editing. I am most proud of my own improvement in these fields. I have old files that I go back to and say, “wow, I really thought this was good.” Everyone starts somewhere but I am glad I’ve got better and learned new things as time goes own.

I feel like my photographs set me apart from others because I choose to shoot things I like and not what everybody likes or thinks is the new trend on Instagram. I stay true to my self and the roots of why I started taking photos and videos. If you want to see the diversity of my photos, please checkout @drshue on Instagram!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe that motivation and taking photos as much as possible is key. You get ideas every day and it’s key to execute them regardless if they come out good or not.
