Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Sedlak.
Hi Daniel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I was a professional Motocross racer for 10 years. After racing in over 40 different countries all around the world I came to California in 2015 and fell in love with North County San Diego. After a year of living in the area I saw a lot of interest for dirt bikes but no places to go and learn how to ride properly or the opportunity for people to try dirt biking without having to buy a motorcycle and all the safety gear first. This led me to start Sedlak Offroad School and we have been operating and growing ever since.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a small business is never easy. Early on it was difficult to get traction and keep a good balance between spending money on advertising, growing our rental bike fleet, and paying all the bills. Coming from overseas I had to learn a lot of things quickly. With no credit history in the US, it wasn’t possible to get outside funding early on and I had to be creative and find ways to grow the business on a shoestring budget. After three years things really started to pick up which was great. At the same time, I was faced with new challenges like bringing on staff, budgeting bigger advertising campaigns, and then in 2020 a global pandemic.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Sedlak Offroad School LLC?
Sedlak Offroad School LLC is an off-road motorcycle school. We work with riders that have been riding for years and are looking to take their riding to the next level, to first-time riders that have never been on a motorcycle before. Our “Day in the Dirt” program provides people with the opportunity to try dirt biking with a professional instructor by their side. We provide everything from the motorcycle, all safety gear, access to our track and trails, and a professional instructor. The Day in the Dirt is definitely one of my favorite services we offer. It’s awesome to share our passion for riding dirt bikes with new riders and introduce people to the sport in a safe and fun environment. We do our best to make all of our customers happy and provide memories that last a lifetime. We are proud of having over 200 five-star reviews on Google and are looking forward to introducing many more people to riding off-road.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I believe the motorcycle and off-road community will see a massive shift over the next 10 years. Between vehicles going electric and more and more restrictions on OHV and other riding areas we will have to adapt. Since June 2022 we are offering electric motorcycle tours just outside of San Diego which allows people to see a whole different side of our city and gives them the opportunity to see what the future of motorcycle riding looks like. I’m very excited about the future and look forward to many great opportunities to grow the business over the next couple of years.
