Meet Darity Wesley of Lotus Wisdom Publishing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darity Wesley.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Darity. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
Thank you for the opportunity to share a walk you through my story! I have lived a long and very interesting life and am now stepping into the next chapter of my life. What fun!!!

My entire life has really been about transformation. This perspective on me is personal, professional and spiritual and is a relatively short glimpse into who I am.

Well, I was born … oh no we can’t start there, can we? Well, yes, but only to say, indeed I was, and that I didn’t have much fun for a very long time. I was born during World War II, and life was not easy for me. My mother was very young and my father, well, I think he was off fighting the war. So for the very early part of my life, I was shuttled from foster home to foster home and then from stepfather to stepfather, and from one painful experience to the next.

From those early days, as a wee child, I adopted the belief that only I could take care of myself because no one else would. No trusting others, oh no! Not only that, but I came to the conclusion that I was unlovable and pretty much worthless. That’s the way I thought of myself.

As a result of those painful early days of my life, I developed some very strong character traits. There had been so much to overcome! Later I did come to realize and appreciate that it was those painful early days that helped to build my strong and resilient character.

Throughout my childhood, I had been going to church regularly. It brought me much needed solace. At the age of 15, I started to expand my connection with the Divine other than what I was learning in church. I researched and read about palmistry and other methods of divination. My experience with these methodologies felt natural and loving and I could feel spiritual portals opening for me that I had not experienced before. I just knew intuitively, in my heart, that these methodologies were a way for the Divine to communicate information in support of humanity. I also knew in my heart that both my religion and my spirituality could co-exist.

When I was 19, I wanted to find out what made me tick. So I went to see a psychologist. I was so repressed at that time, so unable to talk about my feelings, that the psychologist gave me sodium pentathlon (“truth serum”) to help me. Although it did help me to be able to talk about my experience a little bit, mostly all I did was cry and cry and cry. That experience loosened some of the trauma, however, I don’t remember learning much, just letting out some of the pain. But it did help.

I returned to therapy to try Gestalt therapy and Transactional Analysis, which were relative new therapies, in my early 30s. I wanted to work on my feelings of abandonment. These two methods of analysis really got to the heart of the matter for me. Shortly thereafter I graduated myself from therapy with lots of helpful tools to help me navigate through life.

When I was 33, I had an extraordinary experience that changed the course of my life. I was living in Northern California at the time, as a legal secretary and grassroots activist. I had also helped start a Women’s Center, an alternative newspaper and was on the radio about certain bills in front of the California legislature at the time. That summer I had been drawn to go camping at Mount Shasta. It was on the 4th of July, 1976, the 200th Anniversary of the United States of America.

While I was camping at the foot of the mountain, I was shown a vision, a dream. I saw myself standing at a podium with a bevy of microphones in front of me. There was red, white and blue bunting in front and behind me. I could feel that I was a prominent politician and I knew that the work I was doing was having a positive impact on the world. This version of me, in the vision, was so much bigger than who I currently was and the life I was currently living. It revealed to me that I had a much greater purpose and that my calling was in the political arena.

I said to myself, as I sat there at the foot of Mount Shasta, “Well, if I am to get involved in politics, I better get educated!” I wasted no time. I took the next seven years of my life to get the required education. I attended college and then immediately went to law school. In 1982, at the age of 40, I graduated from law school. I began my legal career as a corporate attorney for the first online real estate information company.

By the mid-1990s, with the growing popularity of the internet, privacy was becoming a big issue. I could see that privacy and information security were sleeping giants, just beginning to awaken, and I was excited to be at the forefront of providing much-needed information about protection to the real estate market.

Then in 1996, 20 years after my vision at Mount Shasta, and with over a decade of law experience under my belt, I ran for a seat in the United States Congress what an exhilarating feeling to be standing at the precipice of the fulfillment of my vision from Mt. Shasta!

And then… What? I didn’t win? I’ll admit, I was shocked when I didn’t win. I was so sure the vision had been literal! It took quite a while, I must say, to come to a level of understanding about what that dream, that vision, had meant. I had risked everything … for what? To not win? To not fulfill the dream?

And finally, much later, I understood that that experience had changed my life. Changed me in ways I would not have imagined. My life became bigger. I had stepped out, yet again, into the unknown and survived! Wow! I, again, touched more of the light of my own potential! That was its purpose.

From that point, I embraced my life as an attorney and a public figure. I joined groups and organizations and shared my professional expertise with others through public speaking and publishing articles. I also continued my devotion to daily spiritual practices, meditations and awareness exercises.

In 2000, I made the leap from being Senior Vice President and General Counsel of a real estate information company to becoming an entrepreneur. I founded Privacy Solutions, Inc. in 2001. This law firm provided much-needed privacy and information security protections and eventually morphed into the Lotus Law Center in 2010 in order to incorporate the intellectual property law protection of data, as well as its privacy and information security. I also wanted to share my spiritual philosophy as part of my law practice: cooperation, collaboration, communication.

Then, in 2012, just as I was entering my 7th decade, I was ready to embody the plan I had for the next decade in my life: springing into action by stepping into sharing my wisdom, strength, and experience with others more openly. I began to do more speaking, writing and sharing from personal development and spiritual perspective.

It was in 2016, I took yet another leap of faith transferred my successful law firm to another attorney. This was a huge turning point for me, and there was no going back. I began putting into motion a new life for myself… now, what???? The first thing I did was to start to write my books. I started with a collaboration with my treasured friend Cristina Smith, and we created The Word Search Oracle ~ Yoga For The Brain. Then I started a book series called, The Modern Day Oracle Wisdom Teaching Series (TM).

In 2017, I founded Lotus Wisdom Publishing. We published my first book You Can Transform Your Life, which received the 2017 New Apple Independent Publishers Award for the Best Inspirational/Self Help/Motivation category. It was also a best seller on Amazon the day it was released. A month later its companion workbook, You Can Transform Your Life ~ Go Deeper, was published. In 2018, Lotus Wisdom Publishing published my second book, How To Be the REAL You and its companion workbook How To Be the REAL You ~ Go Deeper is now also available on Amazon!

The transformation of my life began decades ago and continued to this day. I have been able to personally transform myself from an angry, untrusting, unloved, withdrawn, non-public person to a loving, trusting, loved, outspoken, risk-taking, public person. Whee!!!

At this point in my life, I am here to share the wisdom, strength, and experience that I have gained along the way. I have been doing this, since 2006, with something called ~The Oracle~, which began as a daily spiritual and personal development message designed to inspire and support others along life’s path. I continue to publish ~The Oracle~, now on a subscription basis. Anyone interested can find out more and subscribe on my website at www.daritywesley.com.

I am now moving focused on my writing as part of The Modern Day Oracle Wisdom Teaching Series (TM). It is through these books that I am and will be able to share the tools, practices, and concepts that have supported me on my journey personally, professionally and spiritually.

So, in a nutshell, I have come all the way from surviving an extremely traumatic childhood to corporate executive to congressional candidate to successful entrepreneur to an award-winning author. I believe it is possible for each and every one of us to transform our lives and live life to its fullest!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As you can tell from the walk through my life, it has not been a smooth road — many, many struggles along the way. Personally, professionally and spiritually and, in retrospect, all have been a joy to overcome. I learned through it all to face my fears and do it anyway! It has become an important practice in my life.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lotus Wisdom Publishing – what should we know?
Well, as you can tell from the Walkthrough my life, things are in great transition for me right now. I have been known as the privacy and information security guru for so many years especially in the real estate industry but as you can tell we are in new territory now. I am looking to get “discovered” in the sense of finding someone who is of like mind and interested in supporting my work. It is my hope to get more of it out to the world at large which is a challenge I face at this time. So I would love everyone who is reading this to buy my books!!!  Lotus Wisdom Publishing will be marketing the books throughout 2019.

I do not see myself as set apart from others, I am me, and we are each on our own soul journey, driving our own bus. The sooner we come to this awareness, the more able we are to live in harmony with ourselves and others.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There have been many supporters throughout my life, family, friends, and associates along the way. More than I can name. I am grateful to each and every one of them, Here are a few examples:

My friend Dan Clarke loaned me $1,000 I needed to sign in to law school, I had no money.

I worked my way through college and the attorney I worked for here in San Diego at the time, Blaine Phipps, kept me fed and helped me with my rent occasionally in addition to my salary.

I got married my first year of law school and my wonderful husband of 38 years now, made all the difference in my career helping me in every venue all along the way.

My first job out of law school was for a startup real estate information company, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity given to me by Donald Cohn to begin a legal career that took me in so many different directions,

When I left my corporate position and became an entrepreneur, I had no idea where to start, so I joined MindMasters with Barbara Eldridge. It was her tutoring that supported me in creating Privacy Solutions, Inc. and building it into the successful company that it became which morphed into the Lotus Law Center.

My friend Cristina Smith of Yoga For The Brain(TM) has worked with me and supported my business as well as my personal and spiritual pursuits by being there for me, advising and creating opportunities for me to grow and share at her Subtle Energy Retreats.

My editor Melissa Morgan is presently playing a role of much-appreciated support and cheerleader. And my current assistant and graphic artist Paula Wansley is presently supporting me in more ways than I can enumerate for which I am so grateful.
