Meet David Butler of Carma Collective Photography in Point Loma and Ocean Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Butler.

David, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I founded Carma Collective Photography based on a need to fulfill artistic goal of mine. My goal is to create an experience focused on elevation & timelessness. Encompassing & conveying sensational beauty, fashion & Black Excellence.

Capturing every moment, none too big or too small – and making those memories last a lifetime by turning them into Fine Art. I’ve always been about creating about capturing truth, realness and memories in a way that has not been done by many. The fine art portraits my company provides are not only timeless and impactful but are also accompanied by a phenomenal experience with us that makes my clients feel uplifted, heard and most importantly, valued. My background in photography starts from a very young age.

I also have experience in various kinds of music, painting and my first love – skateboarding. Over the many years, my love for all these different kinds of arts and mediums have all brought me to this point. Life in this city will pass you by so quickly, but I truly cherish the fact that I am able to capture those small moments for couples, families, everyday individuals and models and give them something stunning, timeless and most of all, memorable.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Strength comes from the struggle. We must not glorify it, but we must not fear it either. We must embrace it. Those struggles will make you stronger, faster, wiser and more appreciative of everything you accomplish in life.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a photographer who is passionate about what I do, about how I live and about how I create. My fine art portraits are more than just photographs. They are heirloom quality experiences, captured and printed for future generations.

I would absolutely say I’m known for my shooting and editing style. My editing and lighting techniques are not seen extremely often. I would say I am known for the dramatic and impactful effect my images have. We service a lot of areas in the photography field. From creative and modeling sessions to passion and empowerment projects to solo portraits, families, maternity and babies. We provide a full and amazing experience for each and every client. That is what is most important to us.

How do you define success?
Success to me is not about solely reaching my own dreams, but also about being a catalyst for others to create, work for and reach their own achievements. Nothing about success comes easily. Late nights, hard work and harder sacrifices help get you there. It is only when you continue to fail and learn from those failures that you are truly pathing the way to attaining something great.
