Today we’d like to introduce you to David De Anda
Hi David, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My art journey started when I was a kid, dealing with the challenges of not having my dad around. I would ask my mom about him a lot, trying to get a sense of who he was. She told me he was good at drawing, which piqued my interest in art. I wasn’t great at drawing, but it didn’t stop me. I knew I had creativity in me, and I was determined to find my own thing. Eventually, I stumbled upon Photoshop, and that opened up an entirely new creative world for me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely been a challenging journey, and it still is. In the beginning, photography was very enjoyable, filled with fun experiences and social events. However, things took a quick turn for me mentally. I started experiencing panic attacks and fell into a deep depression, making it difficult to accomplish anything. The vibrant world I had created inside me turned into an endless void of despair, and my artwork reflected this change.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m David De Anda, a self-taught photographer based in the ever-changing San Diego, California. I use my digital camera and Photoshop to channel my inner chaos, turning everyday moments into hauntingly beautiful pieces of art. My photography digs deep into some dark, tormented places, reflecting both the world around me and my personal struggles.
I started my photography journey as a way to express myself and make sense of my inner turmoil. Over time, my passion grew into a unique style that blends stark realism with dreamy digital art. Each photo I take is a piece of my soul, a story of my battles and resilience, inviting viewers to see the world through my eyes.
My work shows the power of self-taught artistry and the limitless creativity that can come from even the darkest places.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
The substance abuse started as a way to fuel my creativity, but it quickly spiraled into a decade-long nightmare. What began as a means to enhance my art turned into a relentless descent into darkness, consuming every aspect of my life.
