Meet David Hernandez of Chula Vista

Afrodisiac was born and raised in a border town with an affinity for music. “Afro” started his journey in music djing in high school and burning mixed CD’s for friends. He took on full-scale production and music engineering after a serious car accident provided settlement money, which allowed him to buy his first studio equipment. With perseverance and the power of YouTube, he was able to start production on his first original tracks. Fast forward a few years of intense production practice and Afrodisiac found himself with the opportunity to start his own studio and production company (Blazing Suns Entertainment, LLC) with some of his childhood friends. Now, in 2020 they are running the studio and collaborating with some of the best talents that Southern California has to offer: Hardini Lil weirdo Sethii Shmactt Yhg Pnut Tapri Grams.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The hardest obstacle has been balancing professional and personal life while staying true to oneself. Sleepless nights at the studio while working a 9-5 have provided a learning experience in perseverance and self belief.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Above all else, Afrodisiac is known for his unique music production and engineering styles. He also offers timed studio rental and engineering, which is tiered depending on the client’s individual needs. He is most proud of his production work, which has spanned genres from reggaeton to house and rap and has garnered significant traction on all primary streaming services. His work is set apart by a diversity of musical interests and rhythm patterns, which allow his music to be distinctive from his peers.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
As a child, family parties meant karaoke machines and dancing. This early introduction to music was pivotal in Afrodisiac’s life as it forged a lifelong love and appreciation of culturally relevant music and a brief introduction to sampling and records. At 17, a trip to Coachella was also significant as it cultivated a love of live performance and production, which was to grow with the years.
